Interesting House

The house shows what life was like in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, so is good historically. The gardens are also beautiful and well worth a visit on their own.

With so much to see in a short time in Nelson, arrived just after 4 to find the opening hours on a sign said 10.30 to 4.30. The house was already locked up and we saw a lady with a tote bag walking down the pathway away from the building. No doubt it is kindly staffed by volunteers, but makes... More

While the lovely little house and it's history are certainly interesting it was the garden we enjoyed most. Very English and with some lovely specimen trees - with the sun shining and the cicadas roaring it made for a very pleasant stop. Only five minutes from WOW so if you're visiting there (and you should be!) why not add on... More

This historical sight is guided by wonderful New Zealand volunteers that know this site right down to the foundation. Each room is filled with timely original decor in true living condition. The gardens are also exceptional, with vibrant colors and meandering walks are lovely. Don't miss this authentic piece of Nelson history.

Well preserved home that shows a good overview of period living. Welcoming staff with lots of good information. Gardens are stunning with the most roses I've ever seen. Worth a wander.

This is a must do. The guide takes you around the first part and gives just the right amount of info then you can look around the rest. Would happily pay more than the $5 entry fee.

Missed our turn to WOW and drove past this lovely garden and house. Beautiful old roses and gardens. The house costs $5 entry cash only, and was also delightful. This is a little gem. Recommend

This was my third visit and I was lucky to be the only visitor at the time. It's free for residents, $5 for visitors. It's a very peaceful environment, all beautifully furnished to show how it might have been and commentaries with, for me, about the right amount of information. For family historians there is an excellent file on the... More
