Awaroa Sea Kayaks is based in the heart of the Abel Tasman National Park. We run guided sea kayak trips around the Awaroa region, showcasing the highlights of the northern end of the park. The spectacular granite seacliffs, golden sand beaches and the majestic Awaroa Lagoon combine to offer unforgettable sea kayak trips which are suitable for all levels of experience.

We had an amazing kayak trip with Josh. We were booked for the morning trip but fortunately he reached out a couple days before and suggested we go on the afternoon trip because of the tides and winds. Josh was such a great guide providing helpful kayaking advice as well as extremely interesting commentary on what we were seeing. The foot pedals and the rudder on the double kayak made for the easiest and most pleasant paddle we have ever done.

It was an absolute pleasure to be guided by Josh kayaking the beautiful coastline of Awaroa. His easy attention to safety protocols and boat handling led to a spectacular and super interesting journey into the inlet and around the bay. He shared in an easeful way his deep knowledge of the history and of the local flora and fauna. Stunning plant and animal life on display. Very grateful!

We had a fantastic kayak outing with Josh Smaill. He was very knowledgeable and made the trip so interesting. And the best best part was when he gave us a unique sailing experience with a big sail over all our kayaks held together as a unit - that was absolutely incredible! Thank you Josh - you're the best!

We had the most amazing time with Josh and his crew. Our team was taking some time out from the day to day to celebrate success and plan for the future and we stayed a few nights at Awaroa. Going out on the sea kayaks was one of the highlights of our stay in the Abel Tasman! Josh was very friendly and knowledgeable and his commentary on the natural environment made the trip all that more interesting and enjoyable. Would highly recommend a trip with Awaroa Sea Kayaks!

Our Kayak trip with Josh at Awaroa Sea Kayaks was the highlight of our trip! Our whole family went on a tour and not only got to see the incredible views of the bay and sea life, but got to hear stories from Josh about the history of the lodge, the area and the Maori culture. Can’t recommend him highly enough!

We had an amazing kayak trip exploring Abel Tasman Park and Awaroa Inlet! Our guide, Josh from Awaroa Sea Kayaks, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, sharing fascinating insights into the area's history, nature reserve, and wildlife. He even pointed out stingrays along the way! The scenery was breathtaking, and the small picnic he prepared was a lovely touch. Highly recommended!

Excellent guide gave us good tips for kayaking . Equipment was excellent . The paddle around the lagoon was excellent and our guide described the many bird and flora features . Very pleasant outing. Highly recommended.

Sea kayaking with Josh was the highlight of our stay in the Abel Tasman. Josh was knowledgeable, organised and able to create a fun trip for three families with teenagers. We would highly recomend Josh for anyone who is kayaking in the region.

Absolutely fantastic. Elliot brought us out today for a half day kayak. We saw sting rays (lots), royal spoonbill birds (rare) seals and a little blue penguin. Elliot was so knowledgeable about everything. He’s so calm too that everyone stayed chilled no matter what the waves were doing. Highly recommend Awaroa Sea Kayaks. Location is fab. Facilities and equipment top class

Fabulous Kayak Trip - so much fun! We were in great hands with Josh, he was well organised and very informative about the area. Loved every minute of our time out on the water and kayaking with those baby seals was a real treat!
