Great intro to arid Australia
Sep. 2021
This provides a great overview and introduction to how arid areas developed and the history of these areas both before and after European settlement. Recommend when visiting Port Augusta.

Visitor Centre with overpriced museum
Jun. 2021
This place serves both as town's visitor information centre and a museum. As a visitor centre, it's a fantastic place. Adjoining museum with lots of local history and light and sound shows called Wadlata outback centre - do it only if you really have $$ to spare. The place is ain't bad, offcourse offers plenty to see but in nutshell, not worth that price tag

Good but pricey

Very interesting but you do need time to make it worthwhile as it's quite expensive. Items in the gift shop are overpriced. We didn't eat here but the menu looked tempting.

Too expensive!
May 2021
We have been travelling around northern South Australia and had a couple of days in Port Augusta. We thought the Centre would be interesting but at $22 a head we decided to give it a miss. What could they show us that we hadn’t already seen in our travels?

Worth a visit, need at least 2 hours to see it, but a bit expensive.

The Outback Centre shows the history of the outback from when it was a rainforest before people arrived, through early indigenous people pre-colonisation and to recent and current times.

Well worth a visit, but be sure to leave plenty of time to see it. You will need at least two hours. Also, felt it was a bit on the expensive side ($22 per adult).

We had visited this facility 30 years ago and it has undergone a major upgrade in the quality of presentation. We recommend a visit to this facility before visiting any of the tourist sites. You get very good info (audio/video etc) which will be helpful when you visit your selected trip sites.

Words fail me!

How many stars can I give this place? It is outstanding. It tells the story of the outback from prehistoric times to the present day by means of a time tunnel. You enter a whole new world through the mouth of a giant lizard. There are many painted backdrops together with audio, video and film experiences. I am still amazed when I think back to our visit. It is not cheap to enter ($22 per person), but should not be missed. The complex comes with a shop, a café and toilet facilities. There is easy car parking on-site.

Very informative.

Very informative. Good few hours spent exploring the numerous displays. We missed the trick to visit before heading on the outback road trip, which would have given us more insight into the trip.
