Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We put this location into the GPS which didn’t quite take us there but it was fun walking from where we left the car. Nice views from the lookout, worth going there.

A short drive out of town takes you Outback Botanic Gardens which we did not get a chance to go to, however continue through the gardens to a car park and you get this amazing view of the Flinders Ranges.

We happened on this as part of visiting the Arid Lands Botanic Garden. As we neared the path edge, the waterway and mangroves came into a stunning view. The morning was very still, so the shoreline and mangroves were perfectly reflected on the water surface. Afew clouds in the sky above this place were also perfectly reflected. We did not have a camera, but do remember to bring one with you. Historic information panels provided very interesting history and information.

This place is accessible by car, has a gravel path that allows you to walk up the hill for a better look at cliffs, can walk down to ground level if able or have the time, also has some informative historical information on signs as you walk up the track. The information is a good read on the boards and we enjoyed our visit.

This lookout gave me an appreciation of Port Augusta that was lacking from simply driving through the town. The town is faded and dusty ( to be expected for where it is -- and I should say that every local I spoke to in this area was so friendly) … so to appreciate the placement of the town... you have to really see what it looks like from above... and then you can see it's intrinsic beauty. The red dust, the Spencer Gulf … all before it was ever populated.
This lookout is a great vantage point and a good place for travellers to stop because there is plenty of parking. It's easy to locate because it's on the same road as the Botanic Garden about three kilometres out of town.
Taking this view in was a great way to start my day.

We were truly surprised to come across this place, the view of the Flinders ranges was spectacular, the bridge across the waterway we guessed it was for the Ghan, was beautiful and worth the stop..

You can visit this on your way to the Arid botanical garden. It gives you a great view of the cliffs and the top end of the spencer gulf.

Great lookout over the very tip of the Spencer Gulf, imagine explorers in boats making there way into the mud flats whilst exploring. Worth a Quick trip whilst at the Gardens.

Essentially, you get to a car park to view a section of red earth cliffs which for me were rather disappointing in that they were much smaller than anticipated, and the photos I had viewed I had seen from previous visitors were shots that enhanced rather than revealed the actual sight. There are plenty of walking tacks around an otherwise typical red earth barren (other than vegetation) landscape, but for the brief duration I was there, most visitors simply arrived and departed quite rapidly. There is no seating available at the lookout either, which means having to view while either walking or standing.
If in Port Augusta for three days, probably worth adding to the list of things to see if time is not an issue. Otherwise, IMO, there is a great deal more better attractions.
