Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just can't believe how peaceful this picture-perfect beach is at any time of the day. However, early morning is especially magical, with the birdsong reverberating from nearby Mungomery's Vine Reserve. It's also a great time and a great place to take the dogs for a run during the off-leash period. Car park access at the eastern end plus several footpaths down as you head west past the only remnant vine forest left in the whole of the Hervey Bay region.

Dundowran beach is a beautiful long stretch of fine sand, a backdrop of forest and a bounty of treasures to discover with your little ones. The tide goes out for ever revealing stingray holes, soldier crabs, tiny fish etc. when the tide is high there are waves to swim in. Utterly peaceful, people fishing, walking dogs or no one for miles.

Yesterday my fiancee and i went for a walk along dundowran beach, after reading great reviews and wanting a quiet peaceful beach to relax on. We were shocked to discover after a 10 minute walk we had walked into an area of not one naked man but 5. We were relieved we hadn't brought our children with us and think families need to be aware of what they might be exposing young children to.

Definitely do not go to Whiting Park at the beach end of Petersen's Road. We could smell the public toilets before we could see them as we drove down the road. How people can live near that stench amazes me.

Dundowran is one of many beaches close to Hervey Bay - I have walked for miles along the shore and seen kites, dolphins, kangaroos, galahs and kingfisher and very few people. In fact there have been times when I have seen nobody at all. As well as Dundowran you can walk, or take your car along to Toogum Boat Ramp - where there are pelicans, kookaburras, honey-eaters, rosellas as well as the more common butcher birds, seagulls and more around. The green belt between the beach and houses ensures absolute serenity, and mid morning with the heavy silence, broken only by the sounds of birds and waves breaking on the shore make the place healing, inspirational, and creative for the soul and spirit.
If you care to eat at the Boat Ramp "Goodies" is an excellent restaaurant where you can eat under cover or on the pier out over the water - the Salty Squid is also a wonderful cafe where one can always share lunch with kookaburras and other feathered friends. Truly a union with nature. The shore from Dundowran to Toogum is worth it - you be renewed, refreshed, and imbued with deep peace.

This is a great beach to walk the dog. When the tide is out, unleash your inner child and your dog, and run wild. There is a slight drawback in October/November when the north winds blow and the weed arrives. It can become quite green and smelly.

Private beach away from tourists make Dundowran Beach a hidden gem for the locals lucky enough to live in this small prestigious suburbe.
The Acara tea Gardens are a must for High tea or a leisurely lunch among wild life, and local bushland. And the food is reasonably priced and very nicely presented.
Definatly Hervey bays best kept secret and so worth a visit.
Beach id dog and horse friendly and if your lucky you might meet some locals riding their horses along this beautiful stretch of paradise. There are also short rain forest walks through to the beach and BBQ areas if you take the time to explore this secret jewel that only the locals who live out there seam to really know about.

A trip out to Dundowran beach is a must for all visitors but check the tide chart....low tide is very disappointing as all you will see is kilometers of mud.....watch out for the nudie subakers who have an area about 1.5 kilometers east of where you parked other activities are known to happen around this area.

My wife and I were visiting Hervey Bay and were told of a beautiful, quiet, calm and tranquil stretch of beach away from the main areas of Hervey Bay. The area is Dundowran Beach and I can assure you that this is a piece of paradise. After walking through a cute little rainforest pathway we came out onto what seems like a deserted island / stretch of beach. It was 4.45pm and the perfect time to go for a long walk as far as the eye could see, and occasionally walking in the ankle deep, clear, calm waters. At high tide this could be a magical place to swim too. A gentle breeze was blowing and a dog off in the distance was chasing a ball.
No traffic, just complete calm. We sat on a bench under a beautiful low hanging tree and just enjoyed the serenity. Anyway, we love it here and our minds did too :) Am actually thinking of relocating to Hervey Bay, and if I lived anywhere it would be in this area I think. Some really nice elevated streets with ocean views too and off the main road took us 3-4 mins to drive to the small carpark at the beach.
Apparently it caters for dogs off-leash too which would be handy for anyone looking to take them for an unspoilt run!
