Freedom III is a comfortable 58ft power catamaran which operates ¾ day whale watch cruises from the Great Sandy Straits Marina in Urangan Harbour. Departing at 9:30 and returning after 3:30pm allows you plenty of time with the awe-inspiring humpback whales in Platypus Bay. The cruise along pristine Fraser Island’s western beaches can offer sightings of dingoes, schooling fish and numerous sea birds. Expert commentary by our knowledgeable skipper will keep you entertained as well as DVD’s on the plasma TV. Colouring activities and soft toys will keep the children amused and if they are tired we have 3 double beds. Home-baked morning tea, tropical buffet lunch as well as fruit and cheese platters for the return trip are all included as well as tea, coffee, water and soft drinks all day. With maximum passenger numbers of 45 and three levels of viewing your whale watch experience will be memorable, informative and uncrowded.

Outside of whale season Freedom III is available for offshore fishing charters for up to 10 guests. These trips are usually for 3 days and 3 nights and fish the abundant waters off Fraser Island and the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Get a group together for some great fishing action.

The month of November is great for sportsfishing in Hervey Bay with the migrating juvenile black marlin visiting these waters. We work in Conjunction with Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing to provide Mothershipping for his groups of guests.

Freedom III can also be hired for private day charters or overnight trips on the Great Sandy Strait. Your choice of activities: fishing, boom-netting, swimming, sight-seeing and cruising the sheltered waterways between Fraser Island and the Mainland.

I have been Four times with Freedom and seen Whales every time. It is better to spend the day not a short trip to see whales. The food is excellent, tea, coffee and water all day free.

We have whale-watched in a lot of different venues, in a lot of countries, at different times of the year and from different types of boats...Freedom111 Whale Watching is the most comfortable platform we have ever used!...and there to be used by all...we were made to feel very welcome on board...the skipper was not 'precious' about the boat in that... We decided to go for the full day whale watching trip, a little more expensive but worth every cent. The Captain and crew know there stuff, where to go and how to look after their passengers. The lunch and morning and afternoon teas were fantastic and we had many sightings of whales, but still kept a safe distance. This was... More

The crew on Freedom are the best hosts you could ask for. The skipper (a chief) and his wife have managed many successful restaurants in the bay and have brought their skills to the Freedom whale watch charter. They only do one trip per day so there is no mad rush to get people on and off the boat. A... More

Great day out, food good (profiteroles delicious). The skipper and crew really nice, all very relaxed and can go any where on boat but best of all was seeing the whales. Cannot wait until next year and will do it again.

We loved this tour. We saw about 30 whales on our day out. We were actually really late coming back in as a mother and calf decided that the boat wasn't scary. They played around the boat for 40 minutes! The skipper stayed as long as the whales did. He had just as much fun as we did. Fantastic lunch!... More
