About
The only Indigenous experience in Hervey Bay where you can dive deep into the indigenous and oldest living culture while cruising the bluest shallows and all the unique beauty that surrounds the Great Sandy Straits. We combine marine adventures and captivating dreamtime stories delivered directly by our friends, the Butchulla people. The ocean is very special to us, and we want to protect it. But to do so, we must understand nature, and we believe there's not better teachers to learn from than the Butchulla people. You decide whether to fully immerse yourself in the activities on board. Settle in and listen to the captivating stories from your guide. Or just completely chill to the natural rhythms of nature. I’d suggest a little bit of all three. Snorkel if Mather Nature allows. Join the search for turtles, dolphins, dugongs, seabirds or maybe something more. Sneak off to your own private corners of the pristine beach. Tourism QLD Awarded "Best of Qld Experience"

If you have a young family and are looking for an honest and affordable tour operator that will provide genuine good service and amazing adventure, look no further than Hervey Bay Eco Marine Tours. This business is operated by genuine eco tourism operators with a passion for the reef and its culture. The booking agent is friendly, welcoming and happy to be flexible with families which is a pleasant change. They offer wonderful activities for families with kids, so if you've in the Hervey Bay region, go and see them, located next to the Cafe based in the Marina. They really are excellent to deal with.

We took the cultural walking tour, and honestly, I am so happy that this tour exists and that we were able to learn about the Butchulla mob, their culture and ingenuity. On the face of it, it is a simple stroll along the coast, passing trees and plants that we previously paid little attention to, but Travis unlocked and shared so many indigenous pearls of wisdom with us, opening our eyes to the surroundings that we take for granted and pointing out flora and fauna that we hadn't noticed. That was the magic of this tour. We learned about plants and trees used for surprising and clever hunting methods, as well as medicinal plants and ways, and even ate some seasonal bush tucker that we foraged along the way. Travis was engaging, funny, and open, happily answering all of our questions while sharing personal stories and anecdotes. He also patiently allowed time so we could translate for some family members, performed a moving welcome to Country, a cultural song and dance and played the dig. It was beautiful. We are a family of 9 (some Aussie and some international), including a senior, an infant, a toddler and two kids (8 & 12) and everyone enjoyed and felt it was a special experience. Thank you!

Because it was too windy to do a boat tour, we did a walk around Hervey Bay with Bruce, a fantastic guide and proud Butchulla man. It was like having a yarn with an old friend that sharing their passion and knowledge with you. It was fascinating and I hope that there’s much more inclusion of Butchulla stories and history - told by Butchulla people - in Hervey Bay/ K’gari tours in the years to come.

Overall I didn't think this trip represented very good value. I left it thinking I'd be ripped off and that's not what you want from a fun day.

They sell it as Turtle Discovery tour with the chance of seeing Turtles, dolphins, plus other wildlife.
We saw a few dolphins from distance. This wasn't my main gripe tho as nature can elude you.

We got loaded on a boat and travelled for 1 hour to Pelican Sand Bank - didn't really look like the pictures. We got a story about the tides and conditions not suitable for us to dock. Which is fair enough but a good skipper should know the tide times so perhaps we shouldn't of bothered heading out there with the tides predictable.

The lunch was a subway 6 inch and if you didn't like it there was biscuits and a chocolate at the end. I was expecting something a bit Less commercial from an eco tour.

We were then taken to Round Island which wasn't worth the time. It's not suitable for Snorkelling especially at low tide and quality of the swimming beach is barely worth getting your swimmers on for. We had looked forward to the guide talking us through traditions of the land but the skipper dropped us off 700m from where this was held on the island and dragging our two young kids through sinking sand wasn't practical so we missed it.

Overall we spent 3 hours on the boat and 1 on an island which wasn't worth the visit.

The best part was the Yidaki song at and speech at the the end.

Overall I was unsure what made this tour Eco and wouldn't recommend it with Young kids or if it's low tide.

Thank you for your feedback. I have spoken with the Skipper regarding the landing at Pelican and there was a huge swell and that is something that no skipper can predict. Sorry you didn't enjoy the lunch, due to covid and its restrictions we have to outsource the lunches and Subway seems the best option to suit most people. If you have any suggestions for the lunches I would certainly welcome it. Thank you for acknowledging our indigenous guide. Safe travels.

We had the BEST day yesterday with Jacqui & Will from Hervey Bay Eco Marine Tours. A special day out on & in the water on a turtle adventure. There were so many surprises & amazing parts to the day - the boys just loved it so much & so did I. Exploring uninhabited places, learning the indigenous heritage, spotting turtles, snorkelling in the marine park, walking, taking, stories & smiles. Such an awesome thing to do to kick off the school holidays. BIG BIG BIG thanks to Jac & Will for taking us & Dinka Dinka for the way cool stories 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😍😍🥰🥰💕💕 if you go to Hervey Bay definitely book in for a turtle tour with them guys - you will LOVE it & take your wettie if you’re keen to get a snorkel in as well. @herveybayecomarinetours

Oh thank you so much! I'm really happy you enjoyed your experience here in Hervey Bay. The wildlife have been quite active lately, but you know how it goes - we are at the mercy of Mother Nature on any given day. Hope to see you back on the Fraser Coast again one day.

It was a great opportunity to learn more about the aboriginal culture. This was exactly what I was looking for.
Dingka Dingka was such a kind man and did a really excellent job. He showed as different kind of plants and told us for what they are usefull. Besides he told us a lot about his culture and tribe.
I was deeply touched by the dreamtime stories and the dance and sing performance. Thank you sooo much for this wonderful day. ❤️

Did this trip on 10/1/23, at the third attempt, cancelled twice once because of bad weather and the second time because the indigenous guide was unavailable. We had the option to be fully refunded but decided to try one last time before leaving for home two days later. Glad we did it was very enjoyable, the food was good and plentiful. The guide was informative and entertaining. It wouldn’t have been the same without the guide. We actually got off on Round Island for a short time which we didn’t expect, so don’t know if they always do that. Our Daughter lives in Hervey bay, so will be back to try one of the day time trips.

Djinang walking cultural tour with uncle Joe (Butchulla)

Uncle Joe is an amazing storyteller and a fascinating character. Has so much knowledge and an exceptional manner to keep you engaged. We went for a walk and discovered not only the type of plants and trees but also how his ancestors lived for thousands of years in this beautiful land the connection they still keep with the land and nature. A lot to learn and discover.
I highly recommend this walk tour with uncle Joe. Thank you Harvey Bay Eco Marine Tours. The Ramirez van Haeringen family - Brisbane 2021

Went out today on the boat and we had a great time. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Conway our Indigenous guide was fabulous and told Creation stories of the area. We went swimming and snorkeling and had a blast. Although we did not see any turtles the skipper tried really hard to find some for us. Would recommend when visiting this area.
