On a family camping holiday you tend to look for affordable things to do, and sadly so many attractions are unaffordable for kiwi families, and we chose this place as at $20 for the 4 of us(mum & 3 children) we could afford it. Some...More

The conditions were shocking for an aquarium in 2015. The tanks were bare and had few plants, sand, rocks, etc. The tanks were also cramped and the petting pool was not deep enough for the fish in there. I felt particularly bad for the octopus...More

This was bigger than expected and staff were very good and helpful. We went here because the weather was too bad to go on the whale watch. The staff recommended other places to visit.

Extremely disappointing. The Sea life were contained in shabby bathtubs and aquariums with little else, and looked lifeless. Building was grotty and well over due a rehaul. Would not recommend.

I’d say this local aquarium is a must see. It’s small and most of the exhibits look as though they were put together by a middle schoolers, but don’t be misled. This place is packed with information on the local marine life and it’s fascinating....More

This place is pretty small and it should be a donation system rather than an entry fee. I felt pretty sorry for the fish as they looked like cramped conditions. The whole thing looked like some school science project recycled into a tourist attraction. Maybe...More

We loved this aquarium. It is small and humble but well organised and thought out. Has some interesting suprises. Some people have commented that the displays do not have enough enrichment (like for the octopus) but we were told animals are not kept for long...More

It is a pretty good aquarium, a bit small, but the prices are lower than the aquariums in the bigger cities too. It was cool to see the sharks, the lobster, and all the different sea creatures. The best part was the touch pool, where...More

Not flash by any means and seems to run on a small budget, but staffed with dedicated people who love the ocean. Interesting exhibits and great for kids to touch in the sea pool. We enjoyed our visit.

Whilst camping in Ashley Gorge we were told of the Kaikoura Marine Aquariam by a resident of these parts. "It may appear a little rustic and amateurish" she told. Well it fits that description perfectly but it is so interesting. Shanty sheds at the end...More
