This was a short walk up to the waterfall where we were shocked to find about five seal pups playing in the water. So amazing and a must see. Please be mindful and keep the area clean so this feature is kept for years to come. Very educational and amazing experience.

Title says it all. Was only like 5 minutes walking each way and another 5 to watch the pups play. It's right off the road, easy, and recommended.

I am not sure why people are saying this waterfall area was destroyed,as those locals who live near by are saying it is surprisingly undamaged by the earthquakes. I do hope they are right! I visited in October and there were a few seal pups playing. Many people stayed fifteen minutes and then left. We spent hours there watching them... More

If you are in kaikoura , most of the year there are seal pups varying in ages and they are funny and boisterous, but if you're one of those fortunate few who are around in November/ December. You get, newborn seal pups. It's a great little walk, to a tall waterfall hidden in the forest canopy, a must do activity... More

Reviews below stating that this place has been "destroyed" are untrue. Following the earthquake of November 14, Ohau Stream is currently inaccessible due to several rockslides blocking the track. The waterfall is still there but the pool has a number of rocks in it. These will have to be cleared if public access is to be restored, but such work,... More

I am sorry to inform viewers, that due to the massive earthquake in Seddon in November that it seems this attraction has been lost. A very sad event and a great loss. The seals though have come back to the coast and staff are working flat out to repair and open the coastal road again.

Never thought I would see seal pups in the woods ... and it is free! Look for the notice board on the left if travelling from Kaikoura. There are places to park on both sides of the road and you can also view the seals on the beach, rocks and in the sea. This natural attraction is delightful and it... More

We were there at the beginning of November. There were no pups playing in the waterfall (not the right time of year!) but it was a nice walk and a beautiful waterfall. There were plenty of seals on the rocks at the beach across the road to watch as well. Hopefully, the seals will find a new location nearby or... More

This was a once in a lifetime experience. Walking along the path to the waterfall the older of the pups were sitting playing and lounging on the rocks less than 2 feet from us. I swear we were all awestruck. Everyone walking the path was respectful and quiet and were just as amazed as we were. When we got to... More

We visited this cute little place so many times. This was on the "must do" list each time we had a visitor from overseas or another part of New Zealand. To us, this was the perfect spot - park your vehicle beside State Highway 1, do a short 10 minute walk through forest - arrive at the waterfall to see... More
