A fantastic spot to get really close to the seals. We were treated to newly born pups which really made the whole trip worthwhile. Just be carefull not to get too close to the pups if the mother is close by.

Compared to huge colonies in South Africa, San Francisco, or even the Galapagos, this one is pretty small. Like seals, you see them swimming, and lazing around. You can get fairly close, and some people will likely like to try to get closer than 1...More

Amazing what they have done here with the new view point! It's so lovely to watch the seals sunbathe! Always worth a stop on the side of the road!

A very well made viewing platform next to the highway. I saw A LOT of seals and sea birds. It had a good size parking lot for cars. Hopefully there will eventually be a separate parking for tour buses, if not, I can imagine it...More

The seals were plentifully sunning themselves and a treasure to see. It was a real treat of nature to experience these beautiful creatures in the wild.

The coastal road, SH1, is open and you can drive straight through from Christchurch.

Not t sure about best times we went twice when the tide was out and saw lots of seals
