A great workout with a great view. It's over 1000 steps, it'll get you puffing, but it's 100% worth it. You did't see Whangarei if you didn't do this walk.

It took a lot to convince my two daughters that it was worth the climb, having been up this climb several times before. The weather was great, leading to fantastic views. My daughters decided in the end that it was worth doing all the steps....More

Gorgeous walk though nz native bush to reach the top. During the walk you are spoiled with fresh smells, birdsong and historic steps! I’m not really one for cadio (ever) but this is so worth it! The 360 views over the whangarei harbour are to...More

Wow was the view from the top! I took my mother who was not keen to hike up all 1000 stairs but she did in the end and it was a stunning achievement. The view is spectacular. A must do if visiting the Whangarei district.

I live close by and walk this track regularly. Keeps you fit and has spectacular views. It is a great challenge for the casual walker with a prize of a spectacular view of the area. Great training ground for sporty types.

Wanted to watch the sun come up so went up in the dark with our torches. Took us about 40 min max. It was beautiful! Certainly worth the early morning rise. Got very cold up there in July so advise to take a jacket.

Need to be fit. And the tracks are average and need improvement. Nive view from top through. If your fit its a must do.

Lovely uphill walk, even better downhill. Great trees, wonderful views and fascinating history. Plan a day trip

This is Whangarei's best walk... Easily done well within the signposted times, good for families as it isn't a long hike, although there are quite a lot of steps. Great views at the top!

This is a keeper, you will love the walk (it's steep!) and the views, make sure you veer off to the cliff-lookout halfway up!

Unfortunately public transport only goes as far as the airport at Onerahi. One of the private shuttle services might be able to help but that will most probably only be cost effective if there's a group of you. Try searching... More
