Wow was the view from the top! I took my mother who was not keen to hike up all 1000 stairs but she did in the end and it was a stunning achievement. The view is spectacular. A must do if visiting the Whangarei district.
I live close by and walk this track regularly. Keeps you fit and has spectacular views. It is a great challenge for the casual walker with a prize of a spectacular view of the area. Great training ground for sporty types.
Wanted to watch the sun come up so went up in the dark with our torches. Took us about 40 min max. It was beautiful! Certainly worth the early morning rise. Got very cold up there in July so advise to take a jacket.

Unfortunately public transport only goes as far as the airport at Onerahi. One of the private shuttle services might be able to help but that will most probably only be cost effective if there's a group of you. Try searching... More
