Overview
More
Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand. The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more... The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups. Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

Free of charge, just a few minutes ride to the hill with a nice cafe within walling distance from the parking area. I think gates close (for the car) around 5.

First, a warning, our sat nav took us to entirely the wrong place because we put the name of the attraction and not Russell Road. As for the rest, this is a heavenly spot created by the vision and imagination of committed local people from...More

I have no idea why this beautiful place is not swarming with tourists - not that I'm complaining. During our visit there was only one other couple plus a few volunteers in the entire place. Lake, waterfalls, well tended gardens. And to think that there...More

Wow! What a find this was, absolutely beautiful, drove past a couple of times as we were staying at the Bella Vista Motel but decided to fill in the morning on the last day of 2017 & was so surprised, worth finding out for yourself.

A lovely spot to visit for a stroll around the paths through the gardens planted & maintained by volunteers. Entry by donation/koha is appreciated to keep this hidden gem alive.

The gardens are open daily, including public holidays from 9am. So yes should be open on Labour Day. There is no set fee but they do ask for a gold coin ($1 or $2) per person. You are of course welcome to give a larger... More
