Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand.

The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more...

The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups.

Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

Amazing how volunteers can create a garden like this with no compensation! A small but lovely garden. We appreciated our walk among all the different plants. There were also a nice caffée that had a good mussel chowder and sandwiches. Well worth a visit!

We visited these gardens looking for a pretty place to have lunch and a coffee. Sadly the cafe wasn't open but the gardens were a peaceful place to eat our picnic lunch. We were the only visitors and sat watching the quail root around the garden area. Lovely idea to turn an old quarry into such a thing of beauty... More

The Quail Cafe certainly lived up to its name with a lovely lunch and even a Quail bird in the undergrowth. Not the best of days weatherwise but even in February so much to see if you took your time. The staff were very friendly and informative

It is a great place to take older ones and great for children too. Different seasons have their own delights, loved seeing the unusual flowers, and beautiful work done to turn this quarry into something so beautiful. A must to visit when spending some time in Whangarei.

Volunteers are doing a great job here tending and developing the gardens. A pleasant stroll along the pathways on a nice day is worth considering. The newly opened Quail Cafe offers a welcome drink and a very nice bite to eat. Friendly service. Good rest rooms.

Peaceful and enjoyable space. Landscape well, with areas to sit and reflect. Take your lunch or visit the cafe on site.

Amazing to believe this was a old working quarry, although still historic remnant of its past. The plants are awesome, even in a drought.
