The original building is currently under going rennovations to comply with updated earthquake building codes. Unfortunately, this leaves only a tiny portion of the museum's collection on view at the quayside location. Hugely disappointed. Anticipated reopening 2019?

When we were there, there were some nice exhibits but the experience cannot help being a disappointment to anyone who knows the Sarjeant Gallery's normal home - which is an architectural gem with a wonderful collection.
Well my guide book says highly regarded exhibition of NZ oil paitings and WW1 photos...NO ! Just a load of poor modern "art". Nothing inspirational, norting exciting,nothing imaginative
If you like the Emporers new clothes you might try it otherwsie what are they thinking. Rubbish!!
