We had a customised tour as another couple had to withdraw from the tour at the last minute. Dirk understood our preference for scenic tours and delivered beyond our expectations.
He had brought us to the Wilyabrup Cliffs where we enjoyed stunning views of the cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean. Although we had done extensive research on places of interest in Margaret River, we had not heard of this place before and would definitely have missed it out had we not had Dirk as our tour guide. Dirk was a very knowledgeable guide and would enthusiastically explain to us the history and significance of the places we visited as well as enlighten us on the various flora and fauna we encountered along the tour.
Much like breakfast, the lunch that was prepared for us by Dirk and Pam at the B&B was fantastic. We visited a winery and enjoyed the beautiful scenery there before moving on to a nougat factory, chocolate factory and then to Cape Leeuwin, where we had a tour of the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse.
On our way back from Cape Leeuwin, Dirk took us on a scenic drive through the Karrie forests where we could enjoy the crisp forest air and the amazing vistas in the forest.
Overall, Dirk was a great tour guide who apart from being warm and friendly company during the drive also demonstrated a very thorough knowledge of the various places of interest around Margaret River. The tour was beyond satisfactory and we would love to have him as a tour guide again.

...you have a qualified geologist who is both passionate at his job, and in explaining the natural qualities of the area he's living in. Dirk is a fantastic guide who has unsurpassed knowledge of the area in Margaret River, and even bought us to secret nondescript regions that most mainstream tours will not bring to. He gives a great attention to the personality/preferences of the tour group, in which there was only the 2 of us on that day. If you're not into hopping between 5 wineries and getting bored of the different wine options, this is a great alternative. 1 winery + uncountable nature experiences, in my opinion - is a better mix.

Hi, Thanks for your great review of my Margaret River Wine and Nature Tour. As you point out, not everybody wants to visit endless wineries and when there is so much else to see and do in the region, one or two wineries is usually enough. So I'm glad you enjoyed the special spots that highlight the natural history of the region. Regards, Dirk

We enjoyed a full day tour (10am-5pm) of the Margaret River area. It includes many nature oriented sites and some great food and nurturing sites. We started with stops at a soap/culinary shop followed by a coffee roaster and finally a chocolate maker. Then on to the nature stops at Hamelin Bay with sting rays, then the caves before an excellent lunch and wine tasting at a boutique winery. Our tour guide Dirk had a fabulous knowledge of the area and its natural sites. We finished with historical sites of Ellenbrook with a taste of local made ice creams and then the Giniveristy!! Excellent day with great guidance.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Dirk and the other couple who accompanied us on this tour. As we had teenage children we didn't want a tour which was solely wine tasting. This tour had lots of variety including food tastings, wineries and scenery. We very much enjoyed the home cooked lunch which we ate in the setting of a particularly nice boutique winery. Great day out!

From the website I knew this was the tour for us and I wasn’t disappointed. We started at Hamelin bay to look for sting rays but they weren’t around but the bay was so beautiful and Dirk’s informative talk about the geology was so interesting that it really didn’t matter. The day unfolded with amazing sights, lots of interesting information, a really delicious and varied picnic lunch that Dirk brought to the vineyard where we got to taste 4 wines before deciding which one to have with our lunch. I have been on wine tours before but never one as interesting and as varied as this. I would really recommend this tour to anyone who wants a tour that is special.

a well tailored tour. we got to learn the natural beauty of Margaret River, tasted wines, nougat, chocolates, venison, olive oil all in one day. be prepared to walk as Dirk brings you to places you would not otherwise do it yourself. a geologist he explains to us the geological landforms, cliffs of the south west of Australia. we enjoyed the lunch at his beautiful B&B and would now and then whip up his the coffee liquor. all in all, it was a very comfortable day out; it was fun and it was indeed very educational. highly recommended !

Dear Lizksing, Thank your for your detailed review. It is very much appreciated. I like your description of "a well tailored tour" as I believe it is important to structure the tour to the group's requirements and to pace it so that everyone gets to enjoy it as well. There are so many different places we can visit here so it is easy for me to "tailor" the tour. Regards, Dirk

Dirk was knowledgeable and flexible. This was a low key and relaxing day. This was our second visit to Margaret River so were able to customize and see new things. We had the chance to do a couple of short hikes to see some spectacular scenery. We saw a few wineries and a boutique chocolatier. Lunch was great with some homemade baked goods in their B&B. We were a family of five of varying ages, all of whom recommend this tour.

Had an amazing day, absolutely recommend this tour. Dirk is really friendly and knowledgeable. A nice combination of the natural beauty of the Margaret River region blended with a healthy sampling of the delicious cuisine on offer. I (29) went with my sister (31) and plan on bringing my parents along next time we come back!
