Had never heard of Hamelin Bay and was given a tip from a guy at work, Wasn't disappointed. As I stood in the shallows was amazed to see the Different rays just casully swim past and th eoccasional one comeing right up close to see if I had any food. We got there just after 9am and initially just noticed the two rays but as we walked along the beach quickly noticed several other rays. Was nice and calm on the day we visited but a little cold. Dis see some other with SUP paddling around which allowed them a different vantage point and will definitely be bringing snorkeling gear with me next time to float around with them. Didn't relies there were so many caves around the area so keep that in mind. we ended up combining a trip to Jewel Caves after that allowed us to make a good day trip out of it including a quick trip into Augusta for Lunch.

We just popped down to the beach to see if the Rays were out and about, and fortunately for us, they were.
It was magic to see them so close up

I don't normally rave about beaches but this one is amazing! It has a lovely white sand beach with blue water. If you go at the right time of year you may be able to see a stingray.

Visited in mid January so even on a 27C day it was warm. It was extremely windy though and sitting on the beach was quite unpleasant. The views were lovely and some really interesting rock formations. We got to see some wild stingrays when one of the locals came down with fish guts to attract them. It was very muddy and windy though so hard to see

This is the second time we have stayed at Hamelin Bay.I just love it.Where can you go and interact with Stingrays every day of the week.Good swimming beach and part of the Cape to Cape. There was a bit of seaweed this time in the water but we had just had a storm so to be expected.Boat ramp, kiosk where you can get a coffee, lots of bird life and pristine beaches. We always stay for a coupld of days and enjoy relaxing but if you dont have that sort of time make sure you spend an afternoon there.Stunning

Was raining heavily when we visited, so we stayed in the car, but the views were great, and we had a drive through the caravan park, which looks nice.

When our children were young, we enjoyed a number of fishing excursions to this bay. In the intervening years the cape to cape trail has been developed, the boat ramp renovated and the old jetty further deteriorated. Stormy on the day we visited but the island seemed to act as a breakwater as waves were nowhere as high as elsewhere along the coast. Tried to ascend the stairs to get a better view from the top of the dune but yielded to the sandblasting and returned to the warmth of the car where we sat for some time just looking at the ocean.

We loved it here, stopped in on our way to Augusta and were not sorry. Even saw some stingrays at the boat ramp. Good walk up to the look out.

Can you buy fish for the sting rays in hamlin bay

Hi James.
No you can't, but on the way you will pass a number of roadhouses and fuel stops that sell bait. Just grab a bag of frozen bait fish and you will be set to go. Have fun and treasure our wonderful marine life, pretty special. Cheers

Grab some frozen bait fish on your way down from one of the many roadhouses or fuel stops. Have fun and treasure our wonderful marine life, very special. LOL don't worry about the seagulls stealing your treats, they have too eat too and they are also happy to feed out of you hand.

I'm thinking of coming down that way for a change. Are all the beaches dogs unwelcome? I have 2 Border Collies and we usually go on lots of walks on or next to the beach.

I am also not 100% sure . The beach I believe is not a national park. I feel if they are on a lead that should be fine. When your contact the accomodation places you want to stay at they will know what the rules are. There are several cabins only 30m to the beautiful beach. Also there is a daily feed of some stingrays at the waters edge near the boat ramp. great for visitors.
enjoy your visit.

We will be there in winter midjune - what time should we go in order to see stingrays in the shallow waters? I noted that other reviews mention 9.30am or 4pm but those were in the summer months. Would it be the same in the winter months?

I believe the stingrays hang around the beach all through the day. There are no specific times to see them. They are protected in the bay so they tend to hang around a lot. Hope that helps 👍☺️

Hi there thank you for your review of Hamelin Bay. What time is best to see the Sting Rays and do you purchase the fish bait somewhere prior? Thanks!

Apologies for the delay in responding. I only just saw your message. I believe the sting rays are there all through the year. You don’t need any fish bait for them. They just hang around regardless as they are a protected species there. Best time to go is probably in the summer & spring. Hope that helped. 👍😊

Is this seasonal? Can we still see the stingrays in September?

Not too sure! I was traveling there in February. the best would be to ask a local around there area once you are there.

We have a 7.8 metre motorhome with Suzuki towed behind and two dogs. Is Hamelin Bay pet friendly and
are there powered sites?

Hi Greg sorry for the delay in responding. We had a saloon car so I did not look for powered sites or pets.
