About
Welcome to the first distillery established in the world-class Margaret River Region. At The Grove Distillery, we’ve created a blend that’s distinctly our own. Decades of innovation, experimentation and excellence, culminating in the Spirit we share with you. We source the best botanicals nearby using barrels that once housed our own creations, ports or other drops from this region. Every barrel we use tells the story of the spirit it nurtured, a White American Oak, an Ex-Port Barrel or locally made smaller 50 Litre Barrels to enhance ageing. Time is on our side, producing small-batch premium quantities to enhance to the depth of flavour we can create. We hand-bottle everything before it’s sent out, winning awards both locally and nationally for what we do here. This is the spirit of the Grove, it’s bravery, it’s not being satisfied with normal, it’s making premium spirits while having a good time. Our restaurant is now open offering homemade pizzas, platters, daily specials.

Although the pandemic is playing havoc with the availability of staff in the hospitality industry, up front information may avoid disappointment when staying at any accommodation. Sadly that is the case with the Grove. We booked months ago to ensure we had a place to stay for a family wedding but wanted something more than a room. So Shen we saw that the Grove had a cafe advertising the opportunity for a location to get your morning coffee and a bite to eat we though this would be great avoiding the need to go anywhere else. Sadly on arrival and hanging out for a coffee and late lunch we were informed that the cafe was closed. After further questioning we were then advised that due to staffing it would not be pen over the next four days either (duration of our stay). We were also told the kitchen was being renovated so not sure that more staff would have made a difference.

Apart from that the distillery and winery is in a nice setting and looks as though a lot of thought went into the design. I’m assuming though that business is not sufficient to update the ageing accommodation. While it’s comfortable it’s a little old. Again I’m also assuming that clientele is lacking as it doesn’t look like the outside has been cleaned in a while.

Potential is great but needs a makeover, a good cleaning and holiday makers to help cover the cost of refurbishing the kitchen and hire staff for the cafe!!!!!

What a distasteful experience for our group of first time Irish visitors and relatives of Asian descent (who have lived in Perth for > 20 years). We were on a wine tour and this distillery was one of our last stops. The owner / manager Steve was clearly unhappy with us from the start and got more hostile when we were not inclined to taste further the sweet aperitifs he had to offer. Steve literally refused to let us try any more drinks on offer and even asked us to leave.

I don’t mind such poor service (although very rare throughout Australia) but Steve clearly crossed the line when he blatantly passed some really unsavoury racial remarks.

Such undesirable behaviour is clearly not to be tolerated in today’s modern society.

The really good ambience of this distillery is clearly tarnished by Steve’s obnoxious, small-minded and arrogant behaviour.

The reason for this review is to warn other unsuspecting patrons from being subject to such deplorable behaviour, especially coming from the manager.

In the spirit of professionalism, an appropriate response from the establishment would be appreciated as to how this issue is to be addressed.

Further action to be progressed, if not addressed and this cannot continue, especially with other previous similar reviews.

Hi Brendan I am sorry that your visit was not up to expectations. We do try and have a bit of fun here so maybe the wrong type of repartee for your group. I am more concerned about the racial part of your email as we are completely unhappy with that. I would genuinely like you to ring me on our work number (975574558) as I would like to discuss this with and not through the media. On the bus tours we do liqueurs as it is our point of difference, your group was clearly not into that as nearly everyone returned their drink some even untasted, as tried to explain our products are of a very high quality and not something that we enjoy tipping out they are very expensive too manufacture. As I said can you please give me a call as I really like to discuss this with you, some days we can do up to 12 busses so if I can improve on their day out I would love to. Cheers Steve

My partner and I went to The Grove today for lunch, and what we received was poor service and a plate full of disappointment. When I went to order there were 2 people in front of me, it took them so long to serve them as it appeared the wait staff had no idea what they were doing. It was finally my turn, I ordered the meat lovers pizza for the 2 of us but requested it without the tomato, the waitress then told me they could not do that as the pizzas are pre made and the offered to PICK the tomatoes off for me, I declined the offer and said I would do it myself. I then ordered drinks, asking for a bourbon and coke which was clearly listed on the menu to be met with the response of “why is everyone asking for the difficult stuff today” so I had to settle with it in a glass out of the tap. Finally the pizza came out. It looked like something you would get out of the freezer at coles... but worse. Half of the toppings listed on the menu were not present and the ones that were looked like a 5 year old had cut them up. Will not be back and will be letting everyone I know not to go. So disappointing considering it’s close to home.

Caring enough about the product they sell to even care about the customers coming into the distillery. We paid $15 per head for 8 of us last Saturday for a tasting, and unfortunately Steve ( the owner) was so very rude to us , we felt like he was doing us favour and if he poured us a taste and we didn’t want to finish it, he was disgusted that we would consider discarding it. He was rushing us and making us feel very uncomfortable, so much so that most of our group sat to the side or outside and wouldn’t participate. I find it very hard to believe that it is his business.

First time visit here and we got the one and only Steve who organised our tastings. We throughly enjoyed the range of liquors and mini cocktails they had to offer. Steve with his quick wit and sense of humour had us in stitches throughout this experience. Definitely recommend trying the Turkish delight & Killer koala cocktails. 😊 Can’t wait to come back and visit some day.

The grounds here are lovely and the building is interesting. Our group of six chose to have tastings - the process was not explained very well and it made for some uncertainty. Ultimately, it is quite expensive to taste the spirits - and to buy them. Also, the servings were significant so caution is required! The venue, looking out across the pond is lovely.

Came here as part of the bush tucker wine tour, host was hilarious with the banter, the liquors were soooo good. I honestly thought I’d throw up from the liquor or it would burn on the way down, but they’re ere so smooth! And had such a beautiful taste. We paid to do the tastings again and bought a bottle of Turkish delight liquor and polished it off at home! Awesome place can’t wait to come back.

I bought a tour as a Christmas gift for my partner. James the distiller knows his stuff and we learnt heaps. The tasting of various beverages was delicious and we brought some home. If you haven’t frequented this quite unassuming location, I’d highly recommend it. If you know of backpackers needing work, send them their way….😄

Great products and great staff. Covid affected staff wise but still a great experience. Tastings are a must and the bartenders knowledge regarding mixtures was exemplary. Honey Whisky is a must buy

Group of four visited the Distillery. We were greeted by I think the owner Steve. A real character and entertained and educated us on liqueurs and gin. We bought a nice selection of liqueurs and walked away feeling we had really enjoyed Steves humour and knowledge of his wares. Thanks again for a great afternoon You made the whole experience fun and not a boring wine tasting afternoon.
