About
Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world’s finest. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate. Enjoying its first commercial vintage in 1979, Leeuwin was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1981 “Art Series” Chardonnay. Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellardoor and art gallery. The Leeuwin Restaurant is open for lunch reservations. Bookings are recommended.

Lleeuwin Estate is a lovely winery with beautiful gardens and nice wines, particularly the Art Series Chardonnay. We came here for lunch and on arrival in the restaurant we were served a canapé comprising of smoked salmon which was nice. For entree I chose kingfish with broken rice. Hubby had the cured scallops with kiwi, yuzu kosho and finger lime. Presentation of both dishes was excellent and well executed. The kingfish was tasty, however, the scallops were clearly the winner of the two. They were absolutely delicious and the fusion of flavours that came through with the lime was amazing. For main course I ordered lamb rump with a miso, buttermilk and anchovy sauce and my husband chose the pork dish with cabbage, abalone and wild onion. The lamb was superb. Hubby enjoyed the pork, however, it was a very small serve. We ordered a side salad of gem lettuce, apple, kimchi and sesame which was delicious and complemented both dishes very well. For dessert I had the milk chocolate mousse which was nice and light and my husband had the cheese plate. A minor criticism is that the serving of one thin slice of cheese looked a bit lost on the large plate and needed something else to accompany it alongside the lavosh. We really enjoyed the surroundings, the ambience of the restaurant and the delicious food. It was very pleasant and the perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

Happened to drop in for a wine tasting. The bartender was really knowledgeable and friendly taking time to explain the various wines.
Whilst there we took time to explore the art gallery which holds the original artwork for their special art series of wine labels, it’s really worth a visit.

“Celebrating fine wine, food and the arts, this immersive experience is a decadent introduction to Leeuwin Estate.”

We had a table overlooking the lawn where they used to hold concerts with people like Sting, Diana Ross and Michael Crawford. First a cup of tea then a tour of the art commissioned and used from their “Art Series”. Fascinating variety of art with a theme for each grape.

Then back upstairs for a tasting of 6 wines. Tried not to drink too much but interesting to taste the differences. Sauvignon Blanc was my favourite.

We then went to a table on the terrace where we had the tasting meal with the Museum Collection which meant they were mostly more mature wines which were generally smoother and very different with the specific dish. The best dish was cod with butter chicken sauce which made the Chardonnay taste great.

The staff were very professional and knowledgeable. Just a lovely place to on a sunny day.

Wandered over to the restaurant and tasting room through the stunning grounds of the estate. Was greeted by Huen who organised a tasting for us, as we had booked lunch in the restaurant we were able to sample all the current releases. Huen was very knowledgeable and he gave us not only an overview of what we were tasting but also an insight into the specific sites from which the grapes were harvested and how they were treated in the winery. The wines were uniformly excellent and visiting the cellar door enabled us to taste wines rarely seen on the East Coast (their sparkling wine and their riesling). The stars of the show, the Art Series premium wines did not disappoint, they were fabulous.

We thoroughly enjoyed lunch in the restaurant, both the food and the service was first rate. We finished our visit by viewing the art gallery downstairs which contained much of the artwork commissioned by the winery for their Art Series labels.

A really enjoyable visit made even more so by excellent staff, in particular Huen in the tasting room.

If you can only visit one vineyard , this should be on your list . In addition to great wines , It’s beautiful grounds and art display makes for a great day out . We didn’t have a meal this time due to limited opening days ( covid) but have enjoyed our previous meals there . Cameron was a great host . Personable and knowledgeable.

Beautiful place. Very upmarket but also welcoming and hospitable, we enjoyed all of the wineries we visited in the MR area but this one most of all. We only tasted a few wines and wandered around inside and out, ie didn’t have a meal there. The art gallery is great

Stunning estate, very friendly staff who put in the time and effort to talk through the wines (even just before closing). We would love to come here again. The art gallery downstairs is beautiful too! One tip: check the maps and don’t take the horrible dirt road entrance of Steven’s Road. The road is in very poor condition, so approach from the north end instead!!

The museum wines that we had paired with our degustation, were outstanding. Sadly, cannot say the same for the food. Very underwhelming. Expect to be impressed when paying big dollars. We were far from it. There are much better offerings in the area.

We stopped here with family after a drive from Perth. The venue is located in a very scenic area. The wine cellar is beautiful and inviting. The wine tasting offerings were excellent. We all bought a few bottles to enjoy later. The art gallery next to the wine cellar was a nice additions

The Art 🖼 Series, my favourite Margaret River wine. The winery is an amazing place. You are in a bush oasis. The place seems to have a calming effect as you enter. The staff were okay, helpful in some ways but not over friendly. The wine was amazing. The art gallery is really a must see as well. Pay a visit if you are in the area.
