Having done the coach tour of the wineries, we were looking for something different on our recent visit. We saw this tour advertised at Margaret River tourist centre and thought why not. We are in our mid fifties, but averagely fit and had no problems on the ride. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing a different side of Margaret River and there is a vehicle and trailer for the bikes at the last winery to take you back to MR and pick up any wine purchases.

this was just totally brilliant! Met Toot and Rob at the Visitors Centre at 09.15, to get the mountain bikes, helmets, water and a back pack. We were in a party of just four, plus Rob as our guide. The cycling was easy over a mixture of road, cycle path and forest tracks. Distance is about 19km in total over 4 hours, including winery stops. Rob provided lots of local information and obviously had excellent relationships at each winery. We were given about 8 tastings at each stop, so the food at the last stop was needed to soak up the alcohol. Special mention to Joules at Xanadu, who was the most hilarious guy we met! There is no better way to see the countryside and the vineyards.

My partner loves riding bikes and I love wine, so I thought this tour would be a bit of fun for us to do together during our week long stay at the Margaret River.
We had a great day with our guide, Rob, as well as 4 UK tourists who were also on our trip. We rode 16kms and visited four wineries over 6 hrs in total, including Cape Mentelle, Xanadu, Watershed and Stella Bella. The scenic ride between wineries was quite a novel experience and a beautiful way to experiene the area, and with a guide we had the luxury of going off the beaten track a few times which added to the experience. While my partner is a far more seasoned rider than me, I managed to keep up without a problem and found it wasn't too strenuous at all with only a few rolling hills throughout the day.
We enjoyed a beautiful antipasto platter at the last winery we visited before returning back to the town centre around 3pm. All of our wine purchases were waiting for us when we got back too, so we didn't need to cart them around on the bike throughout the day. Both Rob and his wife were very friendly and hospitable - would recommend to anyone looking for a unique way to enjoy some of Margaret River's lovely wineries.

We have done cycling tours of wineries in several countries and this was probably the best of them, in terms of the tastings (extremely generous) and the overall pacing. Gerard was an excellent and understanding guide, who marshalled a varied group with good humour. As he told us at the start, we would end up having cycled 18 km without realising it. We felt the tour was extremely good value (and we were blown away by the quality and range at the Xanadu tasting).

Great tour, lots of fun and beautiful scenery. We cycled at an easy pace to suit everyone and loved the wines, seeing the vineyards and learning about the region from our excellent guide Rob. Not much riding on the roads which is great and some interesting short cuts through the wineries which otherwise you would never see. Plus a delicious platter to top off the tour. Highly recommend this tour.

Four of us booked a sip n cycle tour (later to be known as the “taste and tumble”)
We were met by Graham our guide around 9;15 and once the formalities were completed we got onto our almost brand new and very, very good bikes to start our 18km tour. We covered 4 vineyeards, Cape Mentelle, Xanadu, Watershed and Stella Bella. Each winery with its own unique identity.
We had a great morning, the riding was relatively easy, but not without its challenges for this middle aged overweight and could be fitter man. Graham was a font of information and made sure we had a good time.
We bought wine along the way and Dirty Detours offered to pick them up and have them for us ready at the end of the ride. Really nice touch and one that encouraged us to buy more wine.
At the end of the tour we were provided with a really lovely sit down tasting at Stella Bella with a huge antipasto platter.
We had fun, and riding gave us a license to chill into the afternoon, order some pizza and drink some of our purchases.
And the Taste and Tumble? Well, despite all the warnings, I tried to follow Graham as he hopped his bike up onto the grass at Xanadu, that looks easy I thought so I tried to follow. Suffice to say I was lacking the skill Graham had demonstrated. I am glad that I was able to provide my fellow riders with some amusement.

This tour definitely lives up to its excellent reviews. The first point is that the equipment is of a very high quality - bikes, helmets and the provision of water bottles. Secondly, our guide was very knowledgeable about the wine itself, so it wasn't a case of just being led to the cellar door without any additional information. The four wineries were varied and showcased a good range of the Margaret River region's styles. NB, I strongly recommend using the spittoon and not drinking everything in your glass at each winery otherwise highly likely to end up being over the limit. The wine purchase pick up and drop off was also a necessity (at least for people like my husband and I who bought rather a lot). Due to a slight change in road layout because of the bypass construction, we were lucky enough to get a bit of an extra ride through the state forest and I think that should be kept in the tour. While some people might think it a little easy on the cycling part - if you want to get the heart pumping, it is possible to do so, just peddle a little harder and faster as there are opportunities to get ahead and then wait for others to catch up.
My only very small negative is that it would have been nice to have the option of peddling the last five kilometres back to town after the final stop at Stella Bella wines.

This was one of the best things we did on our visit to Margaret River in December. My husband and I were lucky enough to be the only people booked on this tour the day we went so it was like having our own personal tour. Bikes were great - we had to provide height measurements etc before we went. Rob, our guide, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It was great being able to access some vineyards by actually cycling through the vines and down quiet lanes (apart from our unexpected trip on the Bussell Highway due to one track being closed!! - Did you manage to find a way around that Rob?) We visited 4 different wineries - all of them a little bit different but all had great wines. Our favourite view was at Watershed Winery and our favourite wine was at Stella Bella where we also enjoyed a lovely lunch at the end of the tour. We cycled around 20 km but it was all at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for tasting! Well worth doing and definitely one of the more unusual ways to go wine tasting.

we booked this from the uk as we both enjoy cycling and think its a fab way to visit a few vineyards! The tour guide Rob who is one of the owners of the company doesn't usually do the wine tour but Tam his wife was rather busy with a new baby at home!
He took us on a fab tour which turned out to be a private one as no one else signed up. This meant we could go at our own pace and both really enjoyed the trip and the cycling chat was well received by my other half!

We've experienced quite a few wine tours around the Margaret River region, and this one was absolutely up there with the best. We felt the combination of peddling around in the fresh air, coupled with tasting some of the best wines in the region, made for a really perfect day. Purchasing wines on our way around wasn't a problem (don't worry, you don't have to carry what you buy!) they are swiftly collected by van and are delivered back with you to Margaret River.
Personally, I walked away with a big grin on my face, and yes that probably was largely due to do with the fantastic wines, but the exercise and the buzz of the bike ride played a huge part! The bicycles were really excellent quality, and Rob was a great guide. We will definitely be back, and have highly recommended it to a lot of people already.
Thank you for a fantastic day!

Which wineries do you visit? I am doing 2 days and don't want to double up!

Hi, I have a group of 5 adults, but only 3 are more comfortable with cycling. Thus do you have tandem mountain bikes for rental instead of single mountain bikes?
Thank you!
