The Abrolhos Islands hod a mystical allure. The isolation, the danger, the rugged beauty and raw nature, and the ghosts of a dark and bloody history all make these islands an irresistible drawcard for the adventurer.
Few can get there – but Shine Aviation made it easy and enjoyable for us to spend a few hours on East Wallabi island, with an unforgettable journey to and from it.
From Geraldton we flew north over undulating farmlands to take in the beauty and grandeur of the Murchison gorges near Kalbarri, then enjoyed the best view of the Hunt Lagoon’s Pink lake that it’s possible to get. Flying across to the Abrolhos, we spotted several groups of migrating whales.
Landing on the dirt strip on East Wallabi, we walked along the deserted beach to a well set up shelter, where our pilot and guide Bree provided us with a refreshing morning tea. We then took a walk across the island’s northern peninsula, greeting the many skinks, lizards, oystercatchers, ospreys, gulls and various other birds and wildlife. Bree knows where the wallabies that give the island its name hide, and she wouldn’t rest until she found one. Then several more turned up on our walk.
It was a little cool for snorkelling, although Bree showed us the reef just a few metres off shore where we could see the coral and sea life.
After a delicious lunch, we packed up and walked back to the airstrip for take-off. On the way back to Gero we flew over the site of the Batavia wreck, seeing Traitor’s Island, Beacon Island and West Wallabi, and for anyone with knowledge of the Batavia story this is a moving and eye-opening must-see.
Another perfect landing in Geraldton, and we were home.
Bree is a very capable pilot (and instructor), and a lively and enjoyable conversationalist, so she made the day fun and memorable. Highly recommended.

Thanks to Bree and Zach for a superb day. We opted for the Kalbarri Gorges flyover, then on to the Pink Lake and time on East Wallabi Island. Bree was a consummate professional and handled me as a nervous flyer (and first time in a small plane) with the exact mix of humour and professionalism to set me at ease. The information provided through the flight was a good mix of historical and quirky tidbits. Once we established our dominion of “Breetown” at the shelter we had a most enjoyable visit. We did the nature walk and there was enough to see to keep a grumpy 16 year old boy engaged. The teamwork to get a photo of the teenager on the beach was exceptional. We were joined by “new boy” - Zach; and whilst we didn’t experience his flying skills his company was excellent and I am sure he will be an asset to Shine Aviation. We opted not to swim, but with such good company we had plenty of entertainment anyway. Lunch was excellent too. To see the Abrolhos Islands this way was magical, we got to see all the important sites of the Batavia story, Bree went out of her way to make sure we saw and understood the importance of all the sites. A trip to the museum before you fly is thoroughly recommended as well. If you ever get the chance to do this flight, just do it. Fantastic service from start to finish.

Yesterday my wife and I had the thrill of a flight from Geraldton to the Abrolhos Islands with Shine Aviation . Met at the airport by our pilot and tour guide Bri, we set off on a bright cloudless morning .
The colours of the ocean and the corals were beautiful and and also extremely good was the commentary on the history and current day situation on theses remarkable islands.
We landed on East Wallabi Island for morning tea on the beach then had a terrific trip back viewing may whales en route.
We want to sincerely thank Briana for making it a great experience for us . Her piloting skills made us feel very comfortable and her knowledge of the Islands , past and present was excellent .

We had a fantastic day, the flight and scenery were breathtaking in a positive way. Our Pilot Bree was a pleasure giving a running commentary on the area, lifestyle and other must see experiences while in the area.
We flew over Murchison Gorge, Kalbarri, the pink lake and landed at the Abrolhos islands for a snorkel and picnic lunch, the only disappointment was how quickly time vanished and it was soon time to board the plane and return to Geraldton. We had a near perfect day and managed to spot a number of whale pods.
Would have no hesitation in recommending the experience as we will remember for a long time to come.

We did the Full Day Guided Abrolhos Fly and Flipper Tour from Geraldton, and it was fabulous. We flew over the islands, with a running commentary from pilot and tour guide Bree, who kept us engaged with stories of the shipwrecks in the area, including the infamous Batavia, and the more recent economic and social history of the fishing communities there. We then landed on East Wallabi Island, where we had a delicious morning tea and lunch, a stroll to look at wildlife, and the opportunity to snorkel in the bay.
It was an absolutely delightful tour; all effort was made to ensure our day was comfortable and interesting, and Bree was skilled, charming and informative. Nothing was too much trouble. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who is interested in the natural beauty and fascinating history of the Shipwreck coast.

With clear blue skies and a light breeze we set off from Shine Aviation’s terminal in Geraldton. Brie, our pilot and guide flew low over the islands whilst giving a fascinating commentary about their history past and present. We were amazed how tiny the islands were, many mere thin strips surrounded by shallows and fringing reef. It was an incredible sight which could only be appreciated from the air. We were surprised by the number of ‘shacks’ dotted across many of the islands, homes to fishermen and pearl farmers. We landed on Wallabi Island and after a short stroll along a boardwalk arrived at a pristine beach dotted with reefs. The snorkelling was surprisingly good, many large and colourful fish, the purple stag horn coral was abundant , other corals were less so. Brie took us for a walk and pointed out some of the wildlife including Tammar wallabies.A delicious morning tea and lunch were included. After four hours on the island, plenty of time to swim, snorkel or wander we headed back to Geraldton. This was a wonderful experience full of history and incredible natural beauty. I highly recommend this tour and this company. Brie was delightful company, very professional and competent.

Ten out of ten. John kindly booked us in at late notice for the Abrolhos day trip after our boat trip was cancelled due to rough swell. Our exceptional pilot and guide, Bri, made the experience truly wonderful and memorable for us with a top-notch flight, in-depth knowledge and friendly manner. Definitely recommend !

The whole experience, from start to finish, was so enjoyable and exceeded all my expectations. The welcome we received on arrival was great, we were quickly briefed on what to expect, chose our snorkelling gear and were soon in the air feeling safe and secure with our very knowledgable guide and pilot, Bree. We flew over Geraldton, the Pink Lake and the Albrohos Islands. we landed on Little Wallaby Island for lunch, swimming and snorkelling. We met the island's little wallabies and spent hours exploring the island in and out of the water. Highly recommended.

You start by taking off from Geraldton airport then enjoyed a scenic flight over the town with the pilot pointing out significant features, you then fly over beautiful waters to arrive at the southern group of the Abrolhos islands, having seen whales breaching on the way. You will love the low flying view of the coral cayes and hearing the shipwreck stories of the region. Landing on East Wallaby it is a pleasant stroll along the beach to a beautiful sheltered bay with picnic shelter and celubrious ensuites 😊. The morning tea was tasty and timely followed by an investigative nature walk spotting Spiney Tailed Skinks, King Skinks, Dwarf Bearded Dragons, a friendly Tammar Wallaby, the local Osprey and their nest (containing three eggs!!!!!), and also seeing the beautiful and unique flora of the island, much of which was in flower. We then went snorkeling over beautiful, colorful reef with an abundance of fish life with many, many WA crayfish. The water was crystal clear and the coral was in very good condition and brightly coloured. After we enjoyed a leisurely gourmet chicken salad (yum) we made our way back to the plane and were buzzed by the local Sea Eagle, with at least a 2 metre wing span, as we walked. On our flight back we flew over the wreck site of the Batavia and over Beacon island the site of the horrendous murders of the Batavia passengers.
We had an amazing day and our pilot and tour guide, Jed, was professional and easy going and informative.
What a fabulous day! We recommend it to all.

The flight tour across to the Abrolhos islands was an absolutely magical experience. From the air, we were treated to an incredible sight of at least 40 whales breaching, with several adorable calves swimming alongside them. The occasional glimpse of reef sharks added an extra element of excitement to the journey. Our pilot, a wealth of knowledge, shared captivating stories about the Batavia and pointed out key landmarks that held historical significance for the Abrolhos islands. Upon landing, we indulged in a delightful morning tea, followed by a soothing cup of tea or coffee at the serene Turtle Bay. Lasting a few hours, this tour was worth every dollar, leaving us with unforgettable memories.
