This is a small museum but well worth a visit. On permanent exhibit there was a history of the settlement of the area and a room devoted to shipwrecks, covering primarily the history of the Batavia. Another display was named “rough medicine” and covered shipboard medicine, primarily in the 19th century as it applied to Australian immigrants.

Check out the Museum (donation entry) for a fantastic display on Geraldton, Dutch shipwrecks and the HMAS Sydney. Beautifully done and wonderful gift shop.

If you're in Geraldton I would recommend a visit to this museum. You will learn all about the ship wrecks and the history of the area. The tour guides in the museum obviously love their job and are able to answer all your questions and give you a real feel for the era. They have visiting exhibitions too - so... More

We went to this museum following the visit to the memorial. There is a new 3-D film of the HMAS Sydney II where it lies on the ocean floor. In addition the film includes footage of the German boat that sank it, lying close by. The separate Shipwreck gallery identifies 4 Dutch ships that came to a sticky end near... More

I am not a museum type of person and I could not get enough of this one. I went for the the story of the HMAS Sydney and got heaps more. The 10 min 3D film of the Sydney story was Faboulous. The display of the Dutch discovering Australia is a MUST..

My partner and I had a short stay in Geraldton and the museum was a real insight to our history. Fascinating memorabilia from our ancestors. The short film on HMAS Sydney was also interesting. Well worth a visit

Unfortunately we arrived with less than an hour to look through the displays. This wasn't long enough to see everything properly. There was some areas closed for work so not all the areas were open to look at. The information and display of the Batavia are well worth seeing. Entry is by donation .

We had a great afternoon. My family really enjoyed looking for clues and completing his little booklet. The art activity at the end was very relaxing and enjoyable as my son and I sat and did it together, enjoying one another's company. Thanks for a great afternoon.

Features much of the local history, but has an awesome display on the Batavia including actual relics etc. Entry by donation and kept us entertained for hours.
