Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Took our visitors to Koombana Bay where we all enjoyed a coffee at the kiosk and then viewed the various attractions and amenities. They decided to enjoy a lengthy beachside walk and take some photographic memories home. Very excited with their experience when collected later.

Bunbury’s new foreshore development is fantastic, lots of new tables and seats, bbqs and play areas. The shade sails on the sheltered beach are a great addition as are the new toilet blocks , bar and cafe. Definitely worth a visit if your luck like us you may see the dolphins.

A very relaxing place to visit, especially on sunny days. Good for self reflection and kept in a neat and tidy fashion.

The bay has a nice swimming beach, Dolphin Discovery Centre, clean sand, a cafe, lawned areas, shade and sparkling water. You may see some of the dolphins if you're lucky. Well worth a visit especially if you're a swimmer.

Found it to be an excellent beach to sit and watch the dolphins and have a coffee at the coffee shop.

Firstly, the bay exceeded our expectations. When we first tried to research a hotel, if we had known how gorgeous this beach was, we would have definitely voted to stay in this area in nearby accommodation.
The reasonably frequent visitation by wild dolphins is by definition not predictable but 11-12 out of 150+ dolphins actually visit closely in the bay and when we were there twice (so far) this week, we saw dolphins twice!
Recommendations to take advantage of the location and accessibility to this beach;
.the bay is isolated and has no waves. It is perfectly calm even on windy days. The sand is feathery soft and although there are boats mooring a few hundred meters away, there are no other nearby craft of any sort (eg. No wailing jet skis to be found). There were consistent helicopters scanning for sharks along the coastline. Sun lifeguard on board too.
.there are shade sails built into the beach for ready-to-use shade. We went on a Sunday and there were lots of families but didn’t run out of shade sail space. There were lots of other shade tents set up by families as well.
.plenty of parking. Lots.
.Nearby to the city centre and to Victoria St where there are all of the top rated restaurants and eateries.
.really clean water, sand and surroundings
.Dolphin Centre is on this ame bay - see separate review but is great for a visit
.beach Cafe is well worth the burgers - kids loved it but the hours are shorter than you would expect (see sea palate review)
.great access to showers, change rooms, external sand washing taps/showers, kids playground, and even a hard path to the water for wheelchairs
This beach is a definite hit for the region and well worth one or several visits

what is the best time to spot dolphins on shallow water?
Meg
Western Australia, Australia30 contributions
Preferably early morning or late afternoon. There have been dolphins spotted in the bay near Aristos café which is near the silo's. There is also boat access near Aristo's for those who want a seafood lunch. (roughly between 5:00am-8:00am in the morning) and (4:30-7:00pm). There are also two beaches at Koombana, Jetty Baths is on the other side and then there is the main beach, both are calm, child friendly and shark free. Just watch out for crabs.

Are there Barbecue's at Koombana Bay
Meg
Western Australia, Australia30 contributions
Yes, but there are better options at Jetty Baths. There is also another kids playground at Jetty Baths and several other restaurants. You have Vat 2, Aristos Café and the Dome. There is also the Bayview which is great for drinks. Taffy's is also worth a drop by- it's the local sweet shop.
