This is a massive concrete breakwater that was built between 1874 and 1890 and used 32 ton blocks that were transportedby a railway, the tracks of which remain on the breakwater. The breakwater is about 10 metres wide and ther is a five meter parapet as well. It is not pretty but does the job.At one stage it was extended but I cannot find a record of its length.

The breakwater is a wonderful engineering feat, however, you are unable to walk on it at present - a bit of a blow.

The breakwater provides an interesting place to view the ocean, easy to drive to without walking to the beach through the various parks and parking lots

A plesant walk along the breakwater with pleasant views along the top of the surrounding area. Plenty of parking around. Easy access to the beach near by.

The view from the breakwater back towards the town centre is nice and would be pretty lit up at night. There were plenty of people dotted along the structure fishing.
The Pavilion is an eatery off the same car park. We were told by local friends that it’s worth having brekky there cos you can watch racehorses training in the water and on the beach. The earlier the better apparently

This is a beautiful area and we are so lucky here to have it however, much work needs to be done to improve the area. The walls are crumbling, steps need improving & in general, the whole area needs a total uplift!

Nice spot to view the oven & then stroll along the breakwater. Views of the open oven, islands & calmer bay

As a kid we use to visit an aquarium located here. The aquarium is long gone but the Breakwater is still a must see spot in Warrnambool. Watching the waves crash is hypnotic and a popular activity for generations
