Neighbourhood: St. Kilda
St. Kilda is an iconic beachside suburb and one of the most culturally and economically diverse of Melbourne’s neighbourhoods. It is a traditional haven for musicians, artists and writers, drawn to the European ambience and fresh ocean breezes. At night, it can have an edgier side, but by day, it features a relaxed vibe – the market stalls, boutiques and outdoor bars display St. Kilda’s easygoing attitude. Ocean winds blow from Port Phillip Bay and waves lap onto its long and mostly deserted beaches. Rides whir at the world’s oldest operational Luna Park. On a lazy weekend morning, bikers cruise along Acland Street, showing off their motorcycles. But the late morning crowds are too busy at brunch to notice. St. Kilda is a perfect place to relax after a night out with friends.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went to see 10CC recently. There was no seating so we could talk before the show, and were forced to be in the theatre if we wanted/needed to sit. Ushers were heavy-handed, inappropriate and rude. For a performance where the average age was 60, we were spoken to as if we were schoolchildren. Our feedback to the venue was not taken seriously.

Went to see BADBADNOTGOOD and lasted 2 songs. Go to live gigs at least once a month. Festivals a few times a year. And this was dreadful…. The sound was so loud it was shaking the couches in the foyer. The staff all complained how loud it has been in this venue lately. Hung out in the foyer and saw group after group leave complaining about how loud it was. Such a shame. The staff told us we could head upstairs and hang on the couches. Not a great way to spend $160.

We attended The Palais Theatre for The Carl Baron Show. It really is an amazing theatre and a good size to enjoy a show. Although there were long queues when we arrived the efficient staff ushered everyone in very quickly. I have been to The Palais Theatre a number of times and glad they have now updated the bathrooms. Check out the upcoming shows, go along and enjoy.

I used to love this venue but not any more. I saw the Hoodoo Gurus on Friday night (who I also love) but left after 3 songs because the volume was ear splitting - just way too loud. Same thing happened when I went to see Cheap Trick several months ago. So I won’t be going to the Palais to watch any more gigs …

A classic Theatre that is central to great restaurants- Sadly though no where decent to have a beer. The theatre is a classic that has great sound nice surrounds and not a bad seat in the house. Everyone should try see a show here once in your life. Parking is easy and public transport runs straight to the front door.

Just went to Dionne Warwick concert. Excellent. Second row. Most uncomfortable & terrible seats. The whole place needs an overhaul. Beautiful place but too old. Fix it.

A great show but puzzled about using Diesel (Mark Lizot)’s 3 piece blues band as support. We had Row W the very Back seats in the downstairs stalls which were chairs brought in from somewhere and far more comfy than the narrow vintage theatre seats in front of us. Sound and lighting was good, great vibe, toilets were awful. Desperately in need of a Reno. Tired, dirty, grubby. Classic venue needing some attention.

Attended the Adam ant concert on Sunday 15 October 2017 - the theatre is absolutely gorgeous but what wasn't so great was the staff continually interrupting our good time dancing and enjoying the performance - they were telling us to sit down, to stop taking pics and generally being annoying. I had the third row aisle seat and I immediately sprung to the gap at front in between the aisles - nobody was impacted or inconvenienced by me being there yet I was told to go back to my seat , which I did. Shortly thereafter I was dancing standing up in front of my allocated seat and Lo and behold another power hungry bouncer type told me I had to move my foot, which was about 3cm in the aisle! What could have been the most wonderful concert I have ever been to was marred by the constant interruptions and nazi style law enforcement that took place, directed towards myself and many others - which I and most of the other people seated near me felt was unnecessary and intrusive. I do not believe there was any safety risk or inconvenience to anyone else so do not understand . To finish On a high note, The building is magnificent!

The Palais Theatre was built by the Phillip brothers Leon, Hermand and Harold in 1927 and is a part of a turn of the century entertainment district. It started life as a pictures theatre and made a transition to live music. The Palais boasts of it's grandeur, the lighting and the quality of it's sound. Some of the world's best artistes like The Rolling Stones, UB40, Air Supply, Kenny Rogers, Beach Boys, Chris Issac, Tom Jones etc have performed. In November 2016 I visited the Palais to hear Julio Igleas perform and then Kim Wilde and Howard Jones. These are nights to remember. As of April 2017 Live Nation Australia Venues has taken on the Palais Theatre operation and restoration works. A must visit.

Attended the Rick Astley concert at the Palais Theatre. Rick is a thoroughly entertaining performer and still has an amazing voice. He engaged with the audience with warmth and humour and had everyone up and dancing. It was a fantastic and fun concert and brought back many memories from the eighties. The Theatre itself is full of charm and grandeur - the only issue would be the limited bathroom facilities but it was a small price to pay for an amazing concert experience. Would definitely be back to see Rick in concert again but would also be happy to see other artists and performers here. 10/10 for a fantastic night out!
