Neighbourhood: St. Kilda
St. Kilda is an iconic beachside suburb and one of the most culturally and economically diverse of Melbourne’s neighbourhoods. It is a traditional haven for musicians, artists and writers, drawn to the European ambience and fresh ocean breezes. At night, it can have an edgier side, but by day, it features a relaxed vibe – the market stalls, boutiques and outdoor bars display St. Kilda’s easygoing attitude. Ocean winds blow from Port Phillip Bay and waves lap onto its long and mostly deserted beaches. Rides whir at the world’s oldest operational Luna Park. On a lazy weekend morning, bikers cruise along Acland Street, showing off their motorcycles. But the late morning crowds are too busy at brunch to notice. St. Kilda is a perfect place to relax after a night out with friends.

Tram stop in front of it and adjacent trams are not too far from the Park itself. There are plenty of parking around the park and along St. Kilda beach.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the kiosks at the front gate. Different types of tickets available from single to unlimited rides and family passes.
The Park is clean, but do be notified that due to the age and size of the park most rides are old and not as intense as theme park rides. Queue times can get more than 45min depending on crowd. We only went on one ride the Great Scenic Railway.
Carnival games were limited. Other facilities like toilets and benches were clean, food and gift bag shops were of theme park pricing.

Purchased my tickets online and collection was a breeze. A fun and exciting place to go for the whole family young and old. Bought entrance fees (without the rides) for my folks who are not into taking the rides and my family of 3 with the unlimited rides. My kid enjoyed himself with the rides and i would highly recommend a visit if you have time to spend.

Still under renovation so some rides/ areas are closed.....not sure it's value for money at the moment. Kids were gutted that the dodgem cars were closed.
Staff are very attentive and do safety checks very thoroughly which is reassuring given how old some of the rides are!
School holidays was BUSY! Long wait times for rides and many rides not open....
Have found it better previously. Disappointed this time.

Not worth the money, a lot of rides were non functional. They had a TV crew filming some garbage, and the people with the TV crew got priority on rides. The poark is ridicuously expensive.
The drinks are expensive and half the time the vendors are untrained and the drinks machine does not work.

This is a dishonest business that just tries to get as much money for as little value as possible. There was barely any staff, very long waits, and most of the food and drink venues were closed for events. Many rides were shut and the park didn't even open until 11am. Since you can't pay for less than a full day that is deceptive and dishonest. Noone should ever go there ever again. If I could give zero stars I would.

Luna Park has gained a new lease on life as a bohemian destination. The Great Scenic Railway is the world's oldest continually operating scenic railway. It dates from 1912. Luna Park's Scenic Railway is only one of eight scenic railways still operating in the world. The track measures around 1 km (3200 feet). There's another Scenic Railway almost as old at Dreamland at Margate, in England. Both Scenic Railways have brakemen to manually control the roller coaster, which adds to the excitement. While Luna Park's Scenic Railway isn't as speedy as modern roller coasters, it can still get up to 60 km/hr (40 m/hr), and it's exciting.

Luna Park is "Just for Fun." It's easy to recognize the giant laughing mouth, which is the entry to the theme park.. Generations of youngsters treasure memories of holidays at Luna Park. Luna Park has had a make-over recently, kids love it. The most spectacular feature of Luna Park is the Great Scenic Roller Coaster. The Heritage-listed roller coaster is the greatest continually-operating roller coaster in the world.

Not worth the money for our family of 3. My partner and 10year old daughter and myself. The rides were pretty lame. There was 3 rides that went upside down and that was good for those who don't mind going upside down. The rest of the rides were really for young people. There was no roller coaster working. No slides, no funhouse. The dodgems only had a very small area. The ghost train was pretty naff.
between getting in and side show alley and a light bite to eat (no drinks) and car park we spent just under $200. And we only lasted 3hrs.
My 10 year old was asking when we could leave. Which is unusual for a kid.....I personally don't think it was worth the high ticket prices, especially with the main ride down.

Geez. Been here heaps of times over the years but this is now just silly. One ride is $10.50 or unlimited rides is $50.00 or more. On the maths surface this makes sense but, little kids, supervising adults are not catered for. It’s all or nothing. Why not just change everyone a flat fee with unlimited options. They are not separate carnies like an agricultural Show, that are big in Oz. It’s a ready made enclosed market. Once inside the food etc is also massively overpriced. Even the family ticket at $188.00 or whatever to get in is an insult. That’s why nobody goes! Yesterday Jan 7th 2020 it was dead. Mc Fly! Wake up guys, St Kilda rocks you not so much. Great afternoon spent at Luna park with family friends. Queues were short other than for the Scenic Railway (45min wait). Beautiful sunset and clear skies though cold. A shame you need a Ticket to enter and can’t buy per ride, my friend would have gone on two rides instead of just one.
Smaller than Sydney’s Luna Park but a more enjoyable experience and nicer staff.

Hi, planning to visit melbourn in august 9-15. Chrcking of will there be anything special happening at the theme park?
Written 9 July 2018
Hi, those dates fall outside of Victorian School holidays and therefore we will have no special events planned. We will be open as normal on the Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th.

Luna Park Melbourne has rides for all ages, young children need supervision at all times.
Depending on the ride will depend on the height of the child which will determine which rides a child can take by themselves.
Luna Park is open Saturdays and Sundays in May 2018.
Family pass for unlimited rides is around $150.

Can a 6 years old (120cm) takes most rides by herself so that I do not need ticket for myself?
Written 27 August 2017
It depends on the ride, the website has a function which you can sort the rides based on the height (i.e. 120-130cm). Based that your daughter is 120cm- she can ride on 17/20 rides. There are rides like the roller coaster, and the other fast moving rides such as the Enterprise and Prahrahs Curse that you may want to join her if she isnt that daring or independent. Also depending on the other people present, and her ability prehaps joining her on the Dodgem Cars?
Written 28 August 2017
Nothing to enter but pay for the rides. Have fun!
