Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved this museum! Easy to get to via public transportation from Melbourne. It is in St Kilda not far from the beach and restaurant scene.
Welcoming staff. Great historical exhibits. Wonderful to see how they captured stories from families and presented Jewish life!

The space in this small museum was well utilised and highlighted the rich Jewish-Australian story.
I liked how the floors and vertical spaces were used. The mixture of stories and artefacts kept my interest in the exhibits high.
The staff are knowledgeable and incredibly kind. We were encouraged to take our time even though it was close to closing time.

Small but well-organized museum with very helpful and informative staff. Interesting history of Jewish life in Australia. Suggest a visit to the St. Kilda community afterward for good kosher restaurants.

A wonderful display of history, artefacts, spoken recordings, furnishings, personal donations of homewares and religious items.
I thought I'd be there an hour or so but there was so much to see and it was so well presented.
Plenty of staff on hand to answer questions.

When you imagine a Museum you think a big building, lots of exhibits, this museum is small in size but big in history, detail and heart! A very emotional and special place, it is a must visit for all of us. We must never forget this part of our history so we never let it happen again.

We went to the Jewish Museum primarily to see the Amy Winehouse exhibition, which was very good, however the rest of the museum was interesting too.
It gave an insight to the Jewish religion and culture, as well as their history in Australia.

Although more of a traditional museum, the staff and displays were excellent and gave one a great introduction and understanding of Jewish Australia.

We visited the Melbourne Synagogue during the Open House Melbourne Weekend. The large building, which dominates the corner of St Kilda Road and Toorak Road, had intrigued me over the years, so it was great to be able to take a tour. We were fortunate to be guided by Ronny, a very personable man who is employed by the community to assist with services, attend to outreach and generally promote the synagogue's role.
Ronny told us a bit about the history of the synagogue in Melbourne and the current building. We watched part of a DVD on celebrations held within the lovely space. Ronny also explained some Jewish customs and answered many a question from the group. He had a wicked sense of humour, too, but I won't repeat his jokes!
After looking at the huge main building, we walked outside and entered the minor synagogue to the rear, where most services are held. Apparently it's not permitted to read from the Torah unless ten men are present, and there are many other synagogues in the general area, so sometimes there are not the required minimum numbers.
We were made to feel most welcome, and thank members of the Jewish community, and other volunteers, for giving their time on the weekend.
