Attempted this walk on Friday this week. Unfortunately the track is completely inundated wth water from recent rains. I tried to walk from the swing bridge entrance but it too was underwater. What I did see was amazing! All you can hear is birdlife and the tranquility is amazing

Quite close to the centre of Sale, a good bike ride or a short drive, is this magnificent wetlands reserve. Leave enough time to do the complete circular walk down to the La Trobe Swing Bridge.

This is a very pretty and beautiful area of wetlands on the edge of Sale but badly presented and maintained and confusing road signs to get there. It has so much potential but the paths were over grown and the board walk in bad repair. Lift the standard to what has been done at the Port of Sale and you have a winner.

Did see a few birds even though it was Winter. Also saw several wallabies. One that was quite happy to pose for me. Just be careful there are European wasps. I didn't realise and when I looked at my photos at home there one was in the Gumnut tree I had been taking a photo of.

We only really visited as an after thought after checking out the historic swing bridge. Even though I would recommend riding from the main car park or from town we just parked in safe area and walked across main highway (cnr Swing Bridge Drive and south gippy hwy)

Worth a look even if dry but amazing if flooded.

We cycled the 15km trail through the Sale wetlands. This is a Jekyll and Hyde tale. The first section that through Lake Guthridge has a runners track and the Botanical Gardens which are a delight as is the historic Swing bridge. We saw some fantastic wildlife including nesting birds feeding. The trails are flat and easy to ride on hybrid bikes. However the boardwalk through the wetlands is in poor condition, many of the railings have gone and the path itself creaks and looks rotted. The signage is also not the best. It is a wonderful outing and place to visit but we felt that council needs to invest in this amazing tourist resource to maintain it so all can continue to enjoy.

We enjoyed the trail and boardwalk over the wetlands, interesting to learn about the original aerodrome in South Gippsland and the aboriginal heritage in the area. Lovely walk

This is my go to place in Sale for a delightful walk in the morning. In the last two occasions the area has been still in the water glassy. There is a multitude of waterbirds to keep you interested in the local wildlife. Locals around jogging and walking take advantage of these brilliant facilities.

The wetlands are a bit more than a drop in or a short visit. Once you start walking you will feel compelled to work further and see more. If you are not a local you are best packing for a lunch and spending a day exploring all the areas of the wetlands, be prepared to walk about 10kms. If you like to twitch this place is a treasure trove of constant change and people complacent wildlife.
