Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What was meant to be a love of the ocean that the collectors wanted shared has been profiteered from.

Happy to pay a gold coin donation to keep the place going but what we found was a ‘museum’ that hadn’t been dusted in a decade, water tanks that were half empty and full of slime and several other confused customers wondering around thinking they’d have been better off walking down to the beach.

Hopefully they use the $20 I paid for two adults and a 5 year old to give the place some love and respect for the people who donated these treasures.

What can I say ? From the cigar smoking mexican clam shels to the dried puffer fish wearing fedoras and playing ping pong. This shop/museum muddies the line between kitsch and absolutely tasteless. I could not stop smiling and had great difficulty not purchasing the three balancing mexican shell turtles. That was, of course, after I was not allowed to buy the shell dragon breathing fire.

The price was good and the gift shop was very big and offered lots of Souvenirs and stuff made up from the shells. The museum was good with the model railway and some live sea life. Big collection of shells and dead things that the community has donated.

The museum is not large, but contains a lot of shells and the like. Everything is documented in detail. At the back of the museum there is another display setup showing a coral reef. Loads of souvenirs are for sale in the museum shop. The museum in itself is already an attraction. The design is reminiscent of a distant past.

The shop area is a sea shell enthusiasts paradise. It's a step back to the 1970's. Lot's of souvenir's and sea shell brick and brac to buy. I purchased the extra entry fee for the marine and miniature train display. I felt this area needs updating, the marine display was quite sad. The fish tanks looked neglected, and the few live marine animals they had on display lacked the natural environment they would experience in the wild, very sparse and neglected aquariums.

Both shop assistants one asian and the old lady made our families with children feel very uncomfortable after a 4 hour trip here from Melbourne we were made to feel like we were stealing old lady approached my children grabbing them by the hand and escorting them out of the shop for no reason thinking we would break something. When I told the assistant you made me feel uncomfortable and after I spent money at the shop was told I'm not welcome in the shop. Very rude and bad customer service I have never felt so uncomfortable in a shop before.

To all the people who said this wasn’t great take a good look at yourselves!
What do you want for $8 ??? It was like a step back in time, things aren’t as good as they once might have been but the work and Passion that have gone into this place are amazing.
Hats off to the elderly owners who were so friendly and had a great knowledge or their Museum, so if you want to see an amazing shell collection this is well worth a look.
If you thought it was a ripoff go back to sucking Your latte at $4 a pop loser.

Just a fabulous place to visit whether you're into shells or not - you will be amazed! Such a collection, not only shells, but coral and fish too. Great selection to purchase as well. Definitely should visit if you're in the area
