The first part of the walk until you get to the steps down to the Falls is family friendly (kids from 4 years old can tackle it) and see the lookouts. There are 2 lockouts you should try.

Once you get to the steep steps, you want sure footed kids who like walking up and down steep stairs. Some kids will thrive in the outdoors doing this moderate section. Roaring falls at the bottom.

Parks Vic will close the steps if they assess that it is not safe to go down.

This amazing waterfall can be reached by a set of very steep stairs, approximately 250 of them. Going down is tricky when they are wet and slippery. Coming back up was certainly not for the faint hearted. However it is certainly worth the effort especially if there has been rain in the area.

Magnificent waterfalls, many steps but take it slowly and you are rewarded with an amazing place to hang out for an hour or two

McKenzie Falls is one of the largest and more interesting in Victoria. On this occasion we did the 1 km walk to the viewing platform rather than the very steep steps down (and back up). Excellent views and great scenery.

It was a hard walk back up but I made it. i've had both knees replaced and managed it. Well worth the struggle.
Love the views and the falls are amazing. Loved it.

Keen walkers, we decided to wander from Zumsteins car park/picnic area (plenty of parking, tables, bbq facilities and wonderfully clean toilets) to McKenzies Falls via Fish Falls. Bonus points for the wallabies grazing at the car park when we arrived back.

A 7.8km round trip that follows the river and not at all challenging. The first km or two is a well maintained and wide track through the forest floor. It then becomes a little more rough but still well maintained and easy to walk and follow - we passed a family with very young kids who regularly walk the route to the falls.

Total walking time was about an hour and 40 mins. We probably only met about six other couples so it was wonderfully quiet and relaxing. McKenzie Falls was much busier, maybe 20-30 people and more arriving from the steps as we left. Walking obviously takes longer but we enjoyed the scenery and tranquility - with the Falls being our reward at the end.

Well worth a visit - via steps or the walk.

Thinking it being the end of Summer, the falls would be a trickle...WRONG!. The sign says 250 substantial steps...and there were, but the experience was very good and worth the lung busting walk.

Going down was easy.
At the falls is like heaven.
Climbing back up...death!

Seriously it’s a must go to place when you are in the Grampians. Beautiful falls to have a good dip on a warm day with the family.

There are 2 ways to get there. The longer route which is flatter and probably a couple of hours return walk or the quick 10 minute walk down the steep steps. If you’re taking the quick route, don’t bring anything heavy because the climb up is really really tough. Took us 45 minutes to get back up because we really needed to catch our breath every 15-20 meters.

The waterfall is less forceful in summer however one can still swim in it. It has very safe access and car parks are very safe. In winter conditions are wet and slippery making it somewhat dangerous. I would not recommend swimming in the winter months

Well worth the effort. We went after rain and the falls were superb. Hike back up was definitely a work out! We continued down to fish falls for some extra scenery before heading back.
