Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have always loved a good walk with the dog or ride around the river. Balyang sanctuary is wonderful place to get outdoors for some activity or just to sit and enjoy

On the whole this is a very good sanctuary, running alongside Barwon Reserve and next to the main road. In that lies a problem because along a lot of the the roadside border there is a lot of waste, plastic bottles, paper, metal bits etc, and also wishing the adjoining land there are paths blocked by fallen branches of trees. A good few days of graft would see the periphery of this lovely sanctuary returned to a beautiful place. The lake part itself is great for the wildlife with elevated nesting boxes secured in the lake itself. The parking around it is free and there are some really nice walks to/from this location.

A walk through the Sanctuary is a wonderful way to top off a sunny Sunday morning breakfast.
The sign of a healthy wetlands is the bird life and there is no shortage on show, the walking track is undulating and with the bridges it would make it hard for people with a walking disability!
Other than that it is a pleasant walk amongst the trees and wetlands, go a little further and take in the river sights. This is a great place to take the family of all ages and let them loose to discover all kinds of interesting things.

There is ample sealed-road parking around the Sanctuary. The walking track that runs along the river and under the Shannon Ave bridge will take you to the Boatshead cafe. This distance is perfect with kids.
The sanctuary has a really nice and relaxed walking track within it. There is toilet facilities available as well. Plenty of space for the kids to run around too, and multiple picnic tables available.

You used to-be able to walk all around the lake at one time but it is very over grown to protect the wild life.
there are plenty of parking spots also picnic tables which I think there should be more of.
Small bridges connect the little islands and the place is popular for weddings

A lovely little sanctuary for birds ... and people. Great grassed areas and paths to find a quiet spot to sit. Occasionally watching a bird (pelican photo) makes time go by relaxingly fast. Great pit stop anytime to decompress.

Nestled down a road beside the Barwon is this serene park with ponds and bush trails to wander around the sanctuary. Very relaxing. I've often grabbed a takeaway coffee, parked in a scenic space, wound down the windows and enjoyed with all senses the beauty of this location. Watching birds without a care seems to rub off on my own soul. Natural medicine.
