Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Spirit of Tasmania now leaves from Geelong so will now have many hundreds of travellers stopping in prior to boarding.
Last year we walked along the foreshore but this year we went into the town and discovered the Art Gallery.
What a fabulous surprise! Yes it’s small but I found an Arthur Streeton and a Frederic McCubbin painting! Very unexpected and exciting! I later found there is one from Tom Robert’s too!
I look forward to seeing that next visit.

I almost gave this a 3 and it's far too small and deserves more art pieces, but I went for a 4 as it's still worth a visit. It was only 2 large rooms and 2 smaller rooms. I would recommend going in, but not much time is needed.
There were 2 temporary exhibitions upstairs, one showcasing indigenous artists which was definitely the highlight, and one by what I think was a local artist which was a bit confusing. The permanent exhibitions downstairs were mostly of what seemed to be 18th/19th century artifacts, nice enough but a bit basic.
It's free entry and they accept donations, but you could see everything inside in about 15 to 20 minutes. I feel like more space could have been made available for more artists.

We visited to see the "Rone Exhibition" & ran out of time to look at anything else in this beautiful gallery. We can't recommend Rone more highly - stunning work by a local artist & beautifully created, produced & accompanied by music from Melbourne Symphony Orchestra members. Don't miss it.

My wife and I visited this Art Gallery on a Sunday morning when there were very few visitors, on our way to Torquay for a holiday.
Among the prized collections are two paintings by Arthur Streeton and a painting by Frederick McCubbin.
Although the gallery is small, it is very clean and well maintained.

The Geelong Gallery continues to produce exceptional exhibitions. The Clarice Beckett exhibition is excellent. Hard to imagine that these paintings were painted between 1929 and 1930 and were lost for decades. It's devastating that many have been destroyed. The works are beautiful and highlight what a beach side suburb was like decades ago. A must visit exhibition.

Went to see the Archies but had to wait for a time slot, so thought I would look around the rest of the gallery while I waited. The only free exhibition was in a room about the size of three bedrooms. I asked where the rest was, and was told there is no more.
Really! In a city the size of Geelong the free for view artworks could easily fit in a house?
Surely a regional gallery should always have a good range of free viewing art always on show.
Note to Geelong people. Come to Melbourne, where you can browse for hours without paying a cent.

I have been a fan of Rone for a long time and this exhibition is well worth a visit to Geelong. The exhibition is just beautiful.
The soundtrack in the exhibition by Nick Batterham is moody, ethereal and emotional.
We loved it.

Ty(RONE) is a Geelong 'son' and the gallery is justifiably proud in hosting this exhibition of his creativity. The galleries explore concepts of 'time', culminating in the main attraction, which allowed us to walk through it, noticing the quirky detail that rewards the curious. We booked online in advance a few days before. Highly recommended.

While staying for the weekend at Point Lonsdale we drove up to Geelong to have a look around and we spent a very pleasant hour at the art gallery. There was an interesting abstract exhibition from Stephen Bram and a very good standing exhibition as well as one of new acquisitions. We particularly enjoyed the collection of ceramics.

The Geelong Gallery is located next to the Johnstone Park. The entrance to the gallery is on Little Malop Street. They only had three galleries open as there was an install happening. Quite interesting artwork from jewellery to portrait photography to pencil drawings.

Hi all,
How much is the entrance fee?
Written 2 September 2018
It is free apart from the occasional special exhibition held in a section of the gallery.
