Just returned from 5 days on Deluxe (the lower end of the Luxury houseboat fleet) and it had everything we needed for a fantastic holiday. The boat was clean, beds comfy, the showers were hot and strong (with the generator running) and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We were a group of friends who had intended this to be a golfing holiday but we were having so much fun on the boat we didn't make it to the course - even though you can birth at rich river country club who will pick you up from the river for a round. We will do that next time for sure. We spent the time relaxing in the spa, fishing, lots of food and wine, bbq and movies on the top deck under the stars. We only travelled 6 ks down the river but had good reception for internet all the time. Make sure you shop via click and collect so Woolies will deliver your food to the boat (learned that for next time). I read the negative reviews but the payment requirements were clear. You pay a deposit then in full x weeks before departure, just like a flight and if restrictions prevent you going, you can get a refund or reschedule. Our bond was returned promptly less fuel costs (which was less than $300 for 5 days - we didnt travel far but had the generator on all day everyday) so for a group of 8, it was really quite an inexpensive holiday with all the mod cons in a beautiful environment. We are all very keen to go again and will definitely go with Luxury houseboats.

Just had a week on the 'Deluxe' houseboat with 2 mums and the rest teens aged between 17-19. We had a great time and would do it again. This was the lower end of the houseboat fleet, and if we did it again we would like to go up to the next model for a little more space in bedrooms and bed sizes. Also there was no evap cooler or aircon in the bedrooms and it was very hot some nights. I was ok, but some other were definitly too hot, so a couple of nights some of them even slept out under the stars. We spent time swimming (those that were keen in the murray as it is not clear water). playing games, a little wakeboarding with friends we met up with there, and of course eating and plenty of drinks. I did a click and collect for the whole weeks groceries, and I was pleased I took a couple of extral large eskies for the beverages.

We are locals and have been on Echuca Luxury Houseboats multiple times now and absolutely love them. These beautiful boats have everything you need within as you wiggle your way up and down the Murray. From the houseboat we went mountain biking, hiking, swimming, waterskiing fishing and had lunch at a winery. Andy and Jacinta and the whole staff at Echuca Luxury Houseboats are awesome and will be back again soon.

Our group of 4 couples was scheduled to have 3 nights on one of their houseboats in November 2022. Approaching the dates it became increasingly unlikely it would go ahead due to the flooding on the Murray River. This was unfortunate and obviously not their fault. However the way we were treated by Echuca Luxury Houseboats was nothing short of disgraceful.
Leading up to our trip they asked us to get travel insurance. The river was in flood at the time so this was clearly not possible, nor was it ethical. Because 3 of the 4 couples did not have travel insurance, Echuca Luxury Houseboats refused to honour our entire booking. They stated they will not refund our share of the money nor will they give us a credit. So they're keeping over $3,000 of our money after giving us nothing but grief in return. So they actually made 100% profit from us - took all the money up front and didn't honour the booking.
This is not unlike a scam. All they care about is getting people to claim on their travel insurance. Do your homework and look at their reviews. They have so many 1 star reviews all saying the same thing. Can we all be wrong? Look at the way they respond - be prepared for more of the same if you ever try to rebook or get a credit or refund. They've been doing these practices for years and were investigated by consumer affairs in the past. Obviously their disgraceful practices have not changed.
Everything in this post is backed up by email communications which I have submitted to Consumer Affairs Victoria. The tone of their emails is disgusting - I can't believe they put it in writing. Whilst I doubt we'll ever see our money, hopefully this will help prevent the same thing happening to others in the future.
They keep going on about how much money their business lost. I fail to see how this is the case when they took 100% of our booking cost up front, refused to refund our money, and won't give a credit for another time. They should not be allowed to run a business and should be ashamed of how they operate and treat their customers. I strongly recommend avoiding these charlatans and making the same mistake we did. They deserve zero stars.

Echuca Luxury Houseboats did not formally tell us that our booking had been cancelled/re-booked. I just called to get an update on the booking only to find out my booking has been filled already. I asked for my $1000 deposit back, seeing as though they were not out $$ for my booking period and was told "life's not fair" and "you tried hedge your bets, and lost".
The company is owned by Jacinta and Andrew who come across as sarcastic and non-empathetic when dealing through customer enquires.
I became concerned and started to do my research, only to find multiple articles of poor customer service including Reports to the Consumer Watchdog and an enquiry by the ACCC.
All I can say is do your reviews, check and balances on this company and if you do take the leap of faith and make the full payment 2 months out, you better hope nothing goes wrong. Goodluck!

COMPLETELY DISHONEST REVIEW.
It never ceases to amaze us how people, who hold jobs where honesty and integrity is supposed to be paramount, completely lie in a review.
Gerard is more than happy to comment on the character of Andrew and Jacinta but then in turn is more than happy to completely lie in his review.
The last email that was set to Gerard on the 27th August 2021 stated the following (BTW this was the 9th email that we had sent Gerard between the 23rd and the 27th August 2021):
‘Hi Gerard,
We can not comment on what restrictions may or may not be in place in November 2021 however as we have stated many times on the date of your arrival if it is illegal for you, the hirer, to travel due to a state or federal order or direction then we will reschedule your hire or offer you a voucher to the value of what you have paid. This applies to bookings where payments have been received in accordance with our payment terms as detailed at the original time of booking.
Your part payment is now 7 days overdue. If you pay the part payment of your hire fee today and the balance of your hire fee no later than the 17th September 2021 then we would accept that as you paying in accordance with our payment terms.
Please note that this extension will not be extended beyond today. If you choose not to make the part payment today your booking will remain cancelled and your deposit forfeited.
Best regards,
The Echuca Luxury Houseboats Team’
Gerard did not pay the part payment as requested.
If the email above is not ‘formal’ enough correspondence to let Gerard know that, if he chose not to make the part payment, his booking would be cancelled then we are not sure what else we could have said (9 times).
If Gerard had paid for his houseboat holiday, as agreed at the time of booking, he would have been able to undertake his holiday.
Gerard chose not to adhere to our agreement, that was explicitly detailed to him prior to him paying the deposit for his houseboat booking, and now he is trying to turn this back on us and damage our business.

**I haven’t travelled with this company but am unable to leave a review without stating that I have, please note this review is in regards to experience with this company and customer service rather than the holiday itself**
As you can see from the responses this company has towards other negative reviews on here. When ever you unfortunately come across a circumstance resulting in you needing to change the dates of a booking, even with 5 months notice.. You are left with nothing but a rude and smart arse response and no care.
It pains me that I even have to give this “Luxury” house boat company 1 star.
This is the worst company I have ever come across, with most ridiculous “Terms and Conditions” and the least compassion or care for their customers.
Do not book with them!!!!! Unfortunately I had to change a booking we had on the 28th of Feb 2022 as I am now due to have a baby on the 24th.
They treat a reschedule as a cancellation but expect you to continue to make payments towards a holiday you have already explained you can’t go on without actually confirming a new date for you first. (The date we wanted to reschedule to is over 12 months away) With only the intention to give you a voucher to be used “sometime in the future”.
Who in their right mind would pay in full for a holiday without actually having a date booked showing when they can actually go?!?! They claim this is ‘above and beyond’ for them to do.
Not to mention the lady on the phone talked down to us and laugh in our face when we tried to explain our situation.

‘Wow you really are an idiot!!!’ This was the first line of Courtney’s last email to us.
Courtney clearly thinks that it is acceptable to call us idiots and abuse us in emails.
We have never spoken on the phone with Courtney. We have only ever received rude and demanding emails from her.
Courtney does not have a booking with us – one of her relatives does.
We have been holding this booking for her relative, and turning away other prospective hirers, for 5 months.
In as many as 4 emails we offered to try and re-book Courtney’s relatives booking dates and if we were able to re-book the boat we offered them a voucher to the value of what they had paid. No loss for them if we are able to re-book the houseboat. This offer was in fact outside of our standard terms and conditions but, given the circumstances, we were willing to offer this.
Clearly our offer to Courtney’s relative wasn’t good enough for Courtney - even when it is not her booking. Clearly our terms and conditions, despite being accepted by Courtney’s relative, do not suit Courtney now that her circumstances have changed.
Clearly Courtney thinks that it is acceptable to call us idiots and abuse us in emails – because her circumstances have changed, not her relatives, and now the circumstance of her relatives booking apparently do not suit Courtney.
Courtney’s relative received, read an accepted our terms and conditions when they booked their houseboat. In writing. Two clear and concise documents. No hidden conditions. We even highly recommend that Courtney’s relative secure separate travel insurance in order to protect herself in the event of unforeseen circumstances resulting in cancellation. Courtney’s relative also acknowledged that if she took the risk not to secure travel insurance then she would assume all the risk associated with your houseboat holiday should she need to cancel for any unforeseen circumstance.
Again - Courtney’s relative received, read an accepted our terms and conditions when they booked their houseboat.
Again - Courtney’s relative chose not to secure any travel insurance.
Again - We made an offer to Courtney’s relative outside of our terms and conditions but obviously this was not good enough for Courtney. Where is the personal responsibility?

My husband and I have been lucky to travel extensively. 2-3 trips a year, 40ish countries total. This is my first negative review.
As soon as our deposit was paid communication was nearly non existent. My emails went unanswered, the only time I heard anything was to remind me when payments were due. We were made to feel like a nuisance at every opportunity. This alone made me decide to leave a negative review but it only got worse.
We paid our bond with westpacs google pay, which for what ever reason generates a different card number and won’t give a ccv number so the bond couldn’t be refunded back into this account. Jacinta was not only adamantly refusing to refund the bond, she was unwilling to compromise or assist in any way. I understand it was a technical difficulty but she was condescending, arrogant, disrespectful and unbelievably rude which there was simply just no need for. Her husband was just as bad. It took a dispute lodged with westpac and a complaint to consumer affairs for us to finally have our bond refunded.
I have never before encountered such poor customer service. This business is ran by awful humans. In such times when the industry is struggling, please support companies that deserve your business. This one doesn’t.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.........................
Between the 14th December 2019 (when the booking was made) and the 22nd March 2020 we communicated with Hannah 22 times via email. On the 5th January 2020 we emailed Hannah to let her know that the final payment of her hire fee was due to be paid by the 10th January 2020. On the 9th January 2020 we received an email stating that "I’m overseas at the moment and have had some unexpected expenses which I’ve had to dip into my savings for. So unfortunately I don’t have the remaining $1300 at the moment. I will have it on the 20th, If not before. " We accepted this delay however Hannah did not pay by the 20th January 2020 and did not pay until prompted, by email, on the 22nd January 2020.
Regarding the security bond - at no time did we ever refuse to refund the security bond. Stating anything to the contrary is a complete lie and we have many emails to prove it. On the 17th March 2020 I emailed Hannah and stated "I have gone to process the refund of your bond however the credit card on the paperwork does not match the credit card used to pay the bond. Can you please call or email the Visa card details (ending in XXXX) so that I can process your refund. Hannah's response, via email, the following day was "The refund can’t be put on to the same card as we had temporarily misplaced the physical card and had to use PayPass on our phone. The PayPass on the phone does not give an expiry or cvc number." A different credit card was provided in that email however, by law, we can not refund to an alternative card as we can not verify if the transaction is fraudulent or not. I replied to Hannah and stated "I’m sorry but I can not refund to a different card. Can you please contact your bank for the details of the misplaced card so that I can then process the refund for you." We tried explaining this to Hannah over numerous emails (7 in total I believe) however all we received was a disturbing resistance to provide details for the alleged temporarily misplaced card and abuse. Hannah's claim that it took a dispute lodged with westpac and a complaint to consumer affairs for the bond to be refunded is also a complete lie. We contacted Westpac Merchant Services and they confirmed that we were absolutely correct in not processing the refund on to a different credit card and they assisted me in processing the refund back on to the card that was actually used to pay the security bond.
In reading this response we would hope that you appreciate the lengths we go to (and are required to go to by law) so that we or any one else do not commit credit card fraud.

I hate to write a bad review but this company needs to be highlighted for their selfish and opportunistic actions. We have a booking on a Houseboat and the majority of the people that would be going are currently in lockdown in Victoria. Even when the lockdown lifts, they will be in quarantine in NSW for 2 weeks which is when our booking is for. There is no chance of them going. This company refuses to discuss any changes to a booking that was made before anyone knew about Covid-19. They will not allow a postponement of the trip or a delay in paying the final monies owed. Even if they get a new booking for that week and that boat they will not give a refund of any kind. So we either lose $2100 now or double that amount if we pay further to keep the booking. We are not asking them to lose money but with Covid-19, an unforeseen global pandemic, they refuse to negotiate so that it's a win/win for all concerned. Absolutely disgusted with them basically making a profit from a bad situation. The worst part is that we all miss out on what would have been a great holiday. We had several groups wanting to go on future trips and we are a repeat customer. Now I don't see that we can ever use this company again. Such a shame as the first trip was wonderful.

Selfish and opportunistic would be writing lies about us on social media to try and damage our business.
Selfish and opportunistic would be writing a review 8 weeks prior to you proposed arrival date (28th September 2020) and not mentioning the fact that the person who booked the holiday lives in NSW and there are no restrictions on NSW residents from holidaying in NSW.
Selfish and opportunistic would be claiming that you are not asking us to lose money which is exactly what you are asking us to do. Clearly you think it is acceptable that we lose money but you are not willing to honour our agreement which would in turn guarantee that you would not lose any money.
Selfish and opportunistic is stating that you would ‘lose double that amount if we pay further to keep the booking’. That is a downright lie.
We repeatedly reiterated to you that if you make your payments as agreed and, at the time of your booking, it was illegal for you to travel due to a state or federal order or direction then we would have rescheduled your hire or offer you a voucher to the value of what you have paid. How is that not allowing a postponement of the trip?
We have not retrospectively imposed terms and conditions upon you that did not apply at the time that your booking was made. You agreed to our terms and conditions when you made your booking but now you are wanting to change them to suit yourselves. If you had honoured your agreement with us, and you were unable to travel due to Covid-19 which would be no fault of your or ours, there would be no monetary loss to you whatsoever and you would be able to take a trip at a later time of your choosing.
We are absolutely disgusted with your review Wendy. All we have done is ask for you to honour your booking with us as long as it is legal for you to do so. All you have done is told lies and twisted the truth because our agreement no longer suits you – that is not win/win. That is if Wendy doesn’t win she will write a bad review.

Wow I honestly cannot believe the way this company response to the reviews, it really goes to show how rude they really are.
Be very careful before booking, like many others we have lost our full deposit of $2000 after being asked to pay another 5000 with no confirmation of the restrictions easing. I am glad we did not pay anymore as we would have lost a whole lot more.
It is devastating to think of how many people are struggling and this company is just taking thousands of dollars for doing nothing.
Please ensure you do your homework as these people will not compromise as will take your money.
Disgusting customer service!

We were booked to travel with friends at the end of March and then COVID restrictions came into effect. Good luck dealing with this company. No refund no rebooking or credit vouchers just silence. Informed we have forfeited our money and should have had travel insurance. No travel insurance company covers a pandemic. Be wary of dealing with them

We are planning a trip from NZ to cruise the Murray. A group of 5 couples. When is the best season/s for cruising the Murray? We would fly to Melbourne. Can you suggest transport to Echuca? Costs of transport.
Looking forward to a response.
Cheers Lynsey
Written 22 April 2017
Hi Lynsey, thank you for your questions. It is impossible to pin point the best season for cruising the river as it really depends on your group and what you are looking to do. If you would like really hot weather then January and February would be best. If you are looking for a mild time of year then May (average long term daily temp of 17.7 degrees) is usually a lovely time of year too - but a lot cooler at night. The hire fees are lower in winter (June, July and August) and highest in January or around Easter. You can travel by public transport (bus or train) from Melbourne to Echuca or some of our guests have used a private bus company - I think it is called Victoirian Bus Service however I am unsure of the cost. Train/ bus cost and timetables can be found on the vline website. If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to email or call us. I was going to put links to website and emails but trip advisor will not allow me to do this in my response

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
