About
The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

Something for everyone, with the winery, ice creamery and old style fudge shop, the blacksmith and the coach & horses. Really enjoyable hour or so wandering, and then plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants open to enjoy snacks, lunch or dinner.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 April 2023

The whole area is well planned and lots of variety to look at. Everyone is so friendly, and love a chat. There’s shops that bring back the old trades, the blacksmith shop bought back memories of my childhood. There’s so much to look at and great photo opportunities. Would highly recommend the Port of Echuca after dark tour.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2023

We came in here to buy our ferry tickets and found some helpful people and many tasteful souvenirs. There were quite a few interesting artifacts and history boards. There are toilets, too.

This free museum has exhibits about the port and the ships that sailed on the Murray River. Exhibits are both indoors and outdoors. I enjoyed seeing the exhibits on the Paddle Steamer Canberra after cruising on her.

We loved this centre. It was so interactive for the kids. They loved the Spotto and prize at the end. Staff were lovely and loved sharing their knowledge.

The Port of Echuca Discovery Centre has an excellent display on the river history, the riverboats and some of the people that ran them. Outside there are exhibits that include 3 operational paddle steamers, barges, railway stock and the magnificent Echuca Wharf. Highly recommended.

Hi. What options are available for someone in a wheelchair for both the tour & a paddleboat cruise?
Port of Echuca D
Echuca
Hi Anne,
Thank you for your enquiry with us.
There are a few different options available for you. Firstly, almost all of the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre experience is wheelchair accessible. However, there may be some sections underneath the Echuca Wharf that some wheelchair users may find difficult to use. There is one section (roughly 5 minutes or less) of our daily Guided Tours that is not accessible. This is when the group goes underneath the Star Hotel to the underground bar. If you are happy to wait at the entrance of the Star Hotel, our tour guides will always come back and pick you up for the rest of the tour. If you are exploring the museum yourself, we have a map that has a recommended route to take (which will take you along where all of our ramps are).
In terms of the paddle steamer cruises, it may be best for you to give us a call on (03) 5481 0500 so we can discuss how to help you best. There are a number of cruises that run each day - most of which will most likely require a bit of assistance during the boarding and disembarking process. The PS Canberra or Pride of the Murray would be your best options, but if you are happy to speak to one of our friendly staff - we can discuss these options further.
Thanks again - we hope to hear from you soon.

Hi, just wondering how long the guided tour takes please?
Port of Echuca D
Echuca
Hi beejrobbo,
The Guided Tours run for approximately 1 hour. They run daily at 11:30am and 1:30pm (unless specified otherwise).
As the answers above indicate, you will also have all day access to the Discovery Centre & Echuca Wharf.
Hope this is helpful.
Thanks

Hi there, I'm planning to visit on 3 Aug. Do you recommend booking online in advance or can I just show up and review the different package options on the day? We've only 1 day in echuca so I don't want to miss out! Thank you!

Weekdays are fine as you will have no problem. But if you want to go on a particular paddlesteamer, then check as some do not run every day.
Enjoy your trip as Echuca is lovely!
