About
The PS Canberra is the oldest river boat in the Murray River Paddlesteamer fleet. Having celebrated her century in August 2013, the PS Canberra has been taking tourists on cruises along the Murray, Darling and Murrumbidgee rivers since 1944. With 100 years of working life under her hull and having carried hundreds of thousands of people the PS Canberra is one of the most travelled boats on the Murray River.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wonderful experience!
The paddle steamer is delightful
Staff were great helping me with the logistics of my walking disabled husband (seating (parking and getting on & off boat)
The captain's commentary was entertaining and informative and moderated to just the right amount to not be intrusive on this peaceful trip
A thoroughly lovely experience!

We had a wonderful time. Being able to see a working steam engine on the water was amazing. The tour guide was informative and funny. We will definitely do this again.

A very pleasant and informative short cruise on the PS Canberra. Great to have the commentary on the history of paddle steamers, the life of PS Canberra and a quiet relaxing time on the mighty Murray River. A highlight of my trip to Echuca.

I have to admit, I turned up an hour early - perhaps a little too enthusiastic, but the cruise was everything I wanted it to be.
The staff were very friendly but down to earth - no corporate greetings, old fashioned Aussie sincerity.
The monologue was informative but witty - when describing the improvement in water quality at the Adelaide end of the Murray, as a result of improved management , it was described as being consumed as a liquid, rather than being sliced.
The river was quite low when I went, so the ability of the vegetation to thrive in the face of great hardship - a regularly scoured channel was highly evident.
Equally evident were the water stains on the trees evidencing recent flood heights.
This was not a ride in an amusement park, it was an engagement with Australian history.

May I know the safety compliance on the paddlesteamer? is there a authority safety check every year on the boats? Life jackets provided? Just safety conscious.

Hello, Thank you for your question.
All paddle steamers carry enough life jackets for the total authorised number of passengers, crew plus 25% more, All safety is administered by AMSA as the authority and NSW Roads & Marine. Are kept in survey, which is a annual inspection for safety as wooden hull vessels they are slipped yearly.
