Built directly over the site of the Hustler Gold Mine which operated in the centre of the town for many decades.

Initial tour by an extremely knowledgeable local with family history within the museum. Then spent own time really looking around. Great collection.

Really enjoyable visit and informative staff.
Great place for those interested in all wars, on hand volunteers for seeking out past history on friends or relatives who may have served in our armed forces.

Opened 14 months ago and the in depth displays, installations and memorabilia is worth the small entrance fee. Moving from pre WW1 through to peacekeeping in East Timor and a gallery with paintings on loan from the National War Memorial, it provides an insight into the wars and the local people who were involved.

Having been to Bendigo for both work and relaxation on many occasions I had no idea that this gem existed. Located in the center of time make sure you allow plenty of time to take in this extraordinary military museum. It focuses on many locals who served throughout all conflicts and is a stoic reminder of the sacrifices many people for Bendigo and surrounds town did over the past 120 years in service to the nation. Volunteer guides are on hand to answer any questions and the layout is simply brilliant. I have been to many war/military museums both in Australia and overseas and I have to say this one is up there! I know each time I go to Bendigo I will be making a return visit.

What an unexpected treasure. We dropped in to fill in time before another function, and wished we could have stayed longer. A lovely old building with a wonderful display of military memorabilia, centred around those from the surrounding area who saw service in a range of wars. The material is grouped according to the conflict and is well set out, with good explanations. The staff were very helpful and the price of admission is very modest. There are a huge number of items yet to be put on display. We will continue our visit next time we are in Bendigo. If you are interested in military history, this is a must visit.

I honestly would not have imagined there was so much military history here in Bendigo. With a history spanning back to pre federation 1860 militias to naval craft named for Bendigo to modern day soldiers this memorial covers it all. Well worth a visit by any military enthusiast.
