Bendigo is a small place so don't expect a huge museum. Having said that, for the price it's excellent and the museum offers enough to give you a feel for how the Chinese contributed to the gold rush in the 1800's and to the wider area. I enjoyed the different exhibits and having a read of the blurbs which give you the history. The staff are helpful and there's also the Chinese Gardens which are beautiful and relaxing. Certainly worth visiting to get some history of the Chinese contribution to Bendigo.

We visited the Golden Dragon Museum with friends who live in Kangaroo Flat. The museum is a beautiful, calming experience.
Local guides are helpful in answering questions about the various pieces on exhibit. We spent 1.5 hours in the museum and gardens. Highly recommend this Bendigo attraction.

Far more exhibits than I expected. Good historical records and value for money.
Visit somewhat spoiled by screaming children not controlled by parents.
Museum staff should have intervened to restore calm as it spoiled all other visitors' experience.

What a wonderful and interesting place to visit. Saw the old Dragon that has just been retired and met the new Dragon. So colourful and beautifully decorated. The whole display is very colourful and well placed around the Museum. Bendigo has a very proud Chinese hiEaster to see the Dragons on parade.

My wife and I visited this place during our recent holiday in Bendigo. We walked here from The Quest Central Apartments where we stayed for 2 nights.
This museum opened in 1991, followed by the Yi Yuan Gardens next to it, in 1996. The Guan Yin Temple at the far corner opened in November 1996. In 2010, the Dai Gum San (in Chinese, this translates to Big Golden Mountain) forecourt was completed.
This cluster of attractions became a major tourist attraction in Bendigo. We were impressed by some of the artifacts in the Museum's collection, especially the Jade Carriage, Loong (meaning Dragon), the world's oldest Imperial Dragon and Dai Gum Loong, the world's longest Imperial Dragon.

The Golden Dragon Museum explains the history of the Chinese in Australia, in particular the Bendigo region. The first Chinese arrived in Bendigo in the 1850s, lured by the Great Australian Gold Rush. The Museum has a number of interesting features, including a Chinese garden and the processional dragon Loong. Loong means dragon in Chinese. Also of interest is the temple dedicated to Kuan Yin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. The Golden Dragon is a living museum, local guides can assist in putting the exhibits in context. Chinese New Years Day is February 12, 2021. The coming Lunar New Year is the Year of the Ox. Oxen are hard-working, intelligent beasts, so we can hope for an auspicious year. The museum is interesting, it's well worth a tour.

There have been Chinese people in Australia for centuries. but they arrived in numbers following the Great Australian Gold Rush in 1851. The Golden Dragon Museum records the history of the Chinese people in central Victoria from the 1850s to the present. The Golden Dragon is a record of Chinese culture and the experience of the Chinese in Australia, The research centre contains immigration records, family trees and cemetery records. The archival records hold over 11,000 newspaper articles. The Tea Room and Gift Shop are worth a visit.

It was initially a time filler for us but we were so wrong. The place had so many interesting facts. Lots to learn about the chinese in Bendigo's history. The garden is also so beautiful. Autumn leaves on the trees among the evergreen bamboo is so beautiful. Worth a visit.

Interesting but some of the information boards are a little difficult to read in the low light.
The big dragon is impressive but would have been good to see some video footage of the dragon's past performances.
The garden and pond were lovely.

John Wade 29 has nailed the various prices.
It’s actually cheap considering the quality of the attraction.
Make sure you pay the fee for the local guide as the experience is so much richer.
