Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tram driver Steve has been employed for 41 years carrying passengers between North Bendigo's Chinese Joss House, Charing Cross (Pall Mall) and the other tram terminus at the Central Deborah Gold Mine.
The Bendigo Trust has a fleet of 30 trams. Major renovations are underway at the depot, which is closed to visitors but may reopen at some stage in 2024.
Steve drove expertly. Given the tram travels along a major road, some motorists fail to allow sufficient room for the tram to pass, with motorists' inability to judge how far their mirrors extend from their car (or truck!) something tram drivers must watch for.
The Birney car (tram) on which I travelled, a single truck tram (i.e. small) had much lateral sway, adding to the enjoyment, especially when the driver put the controller in full parallel (i.e. maximum speed).
There are several tram stops where one can alight for historic buildings, Lake Weeroona or other Bendigo attractions.
An improvement would be to discontinue politically correct, fake liveries and return trams to their original liveries. For instance the ex-Melbourne trams ought be painted externally in green and cream.
That said, the day ticket price of A$12.50 is good value given that trams normally operate hourly.

Thank you for the wonderful review! Steve will greatly appreciate the kind words; he is very passionate about the work he does at the Bendigo Tramways and is always enthused when he can share that with others. We're glad to see you enjoyed your tram drive with us and hope we can see you again soon.

Our group of 13 decided to take the VLine train from Sunbury to Bendigo. It was a comfortable and smooth day return trip and cost us $5 as seniors.
We hopped on a bus from the station to the very well appointed RSL for lunch and then back into town to take the Tram for a 45 minute circle of Bendigo. It was an experience. Funny, informative when you could hear over the rattle and shake. The driver and conductor were very nice and helpful, with comedic responses to our questions.
We thought we'd stop at a Cafe before heading to the train station but everything closes at 3pm. So after 1 hour of searching in 30degrees heat for a cafe without luck, we got back on the train and had a pizza dinner at 'Italhia' Restaurant in Sunbury.
Great day out.

As the Bendigo Easter Festival was underway the Talking Trams were not going on their complete tour of the area. However, it was lovely to ride the old tram to the Festival area and back. They are kept in excellent condition and a pleasure to ride. They leave from outside the Central Deborah Mine Centre .

We enjoyed our trip on the tram so much that we did the entire route a second time on the other tram. Our ticket covered the whole day, so it didn't cost any more to do the extra trip. Getting off in the Bendigo CBD area meant we could walk around and see the sights without having to worry about parking. We used to catch trams in Brisbane when we were little kids, so it brought back many happy memories. A lovely day.

They welcomed my giant dog and myself on the tour. They made us feel welcome and were very engaging. You can buy a ticket for the day and jump on and off as you wish. We purchased a ticket and completed the loop in one sitting which was great for our needs.

Have been before & enjoyed but recently the drivers are arrogant. The way they speak about cars around them is just rude. Saw a person in a turn lane & our driver got so close to them, they couldn’t see around tram & we were scared there would be an accident.
I get it must be frustrating for them but trying to cause an accident won’t help either.
Will watch tram go past next time. Would not bother again

We took the tram along the length of the route and learnt so much of the history of Bendigo. The tram takes in the old tram depot too for 15 minutes where you get to see many of the historic and restored trams. Of note is that the trams are all decorated in amazing ways. Our one for example is literally covered entirely in crocheted blankets and bunting. Extraordinary sight to behold and added to the excitement of riding on these wonderfully restored icons.

We pulled into Bendigo to stretch our legs and saw the trams and thought it might be a unique way to see a few of the sights of Bendigo rather than just driving though it. We bought a ticket off the driver and did the round trip which took about an hour. Our driver, Steve, was really friendly and a wealth of knowledge on top of the talking tour. Glad we took the hour out to do it and would recommend to others.

Trams run regularly with plenty of info and great commentary. Seats are a little uncomfortable for boney bums.

Address of depot is 1 Tramways Avenue, Bendigo VIC 3550, it's at the corner of Tramways Avenue and Hargreaves Street.
You can also see in the depot restored trams and work being done on other trams . tram runs along main street and you can hop off and on along the way

My mother-in-law and I are arriving from Melbourne to Bendigo by train on Monday for a day trip. We would like to know if the location for the tram tour is a long way from the train station? Can we walk to it? The tour Is ideal for us to explore Bendigo's attractions.

What is the route of the tram?
19Lucy14
Paeroa, New Zealand95 contributions
Good answers already given on route but suggest that if you want to do the WW1 ANZAC Tram it's the first one of the day at 10am from Deborah Mine or 9.45 from the Depot. We visited the Mine first and then caught the tram so unfortunately missed the 10am WW1 ANZAC commentary. It's takes 1hour round trip. The tram stops at all stops going to the Joss House but on it's return southbound from the Joss House it doesn't stop at the Depot.

How long does a round trip take on the Hop on Hop off tram?
Cindy Nickels
Bendigo, Australia325 contributions
This hop-on, hop-off tour stops throughout the city allowing you to explore many of the parks, attractions, shopping and dining facilities that Bendigo has to offer.
The tour commences at Central Deborah Gold Mine but you can join or depart the Vintage Talking Tram Tour at any one of the designated tram stops.
Your Vintage Talking Tram Tour Ticket is valid for two consecutive days, so you can hop-on and hop-off the tram as often as you like within those two days. Allow 90 minutes for a round trip.
