About
Experience the excitement and history of Launceston's spectacular Tamar River from the comfort of our unique vessels. An informative commentary from our skippers will take you on a historical journey where you will discover the stories and tales that shaped Launceston and the Tamar Valley. Travel in to the heart of the Tamar and view the navigable section of the spectacular Cataract Gorge. Sample the delights of our local wines and cheeses as you view breathtaking scenery, world class vineyards, historical buildings, rural settings and frequent encounters of fascinating wild life including sea eagles, wild duck, black swans, pelicans, plus many other varieties of water-fowl and occasionally playful seals. One of our passenger recently commented it is like a moving postcard. It is certainly a 'must do' when visiting Launceston!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were greeted by the Skipper and Tour Guide on the Wharf.
Down ramp onto Vessel where we were given Safety Instructions.
Introduced to Assistant and other members of the Cruise attendees.
Free to roam up, down or around the Vessel once it began its course.
Exciting up on the bow whilst heading to the Cataract Gorge. Interesting hearing the history of the Bridges across the Gorge and seeing the old Victorian Homes on the hillside adjacent to the river.
Most pleasant inside, out of the wind listening to the commentary and seeing all the scenery on either side of the River, when heading downstream.
Morning Tea was available.
Muffins, cake, tea and coffee. Most pleasant.
Later: a wine tasting. Interesting sampling 2 whites, one red and a Lager.

Lovely treat to finish the morning.
Most worthwhile activity.

Our group of golfers really enjoyed taking time out to cruise up the Tamar River on this "discovery" tour. Our captain, Lynn, provided a well prepared monologue as we cruised first to Cataract Gorge and then up the river. The afternoon tea and wine and beer tastings complemented the experience well and we appreciated the opportunity to visit this icon area of North Tasmania.

Right from the start Callum and Toni were very welcoming. The scenery from the cruise was beautiful but made so much better by the friendliness and humour from the commentary. Coffee and tea on the go all the time with fresh muffins and biscuits. A fruit bowl also for those healthier than me! We are almost locals but enjoyed this trip as much as any interstate/overseas visitors. Thankyou for giving us such an enjoyable morning!

No suitable for kids! If you would simply like to sit on a boat for 2.5hours and listen to some history of Tasmania then this is for you. A really cool sea lion.. The first half of the trip I’d recommend you buying wine or beers from the bar and then finding a cushion on the front of the boat. The second half they will offer you three wines to taste (in a lovely shot glass) and a James boag
beer (my husband highly un-recommends…. However he’s a pale ale guy).. there’s some fruit, muffins and cookies to enjoy…. My advice is if you’d like a lazy afternoon cursing the rivier paying $15 a glass of wine additional to your trip price, then this is the trip for you. Would be better if there were a few stops at some cool pubs along the way.

Really enjoyed this fabulous river cruise of Tamar Valley and Cataract Gorge. The crew were amazing and Captain Callum has a wealth of knowledge about the local area. Service on board was exceptional. Abundance of food and local wine / beer tasting an added treat. Cannot recommend more highly.

Really enjoyed the cruise. Callum took care of the commentary and driving, whilst Matthew took care of the food and passengers. It was very informative and the food and beverage offering was more than adequate. Wine tasting too.

Our experience was fantastic from beginning to end. Gemma in the office has a clear passion for the area and ever so helpful with all things Launceston. Captain Callum had fantastic commentary and knowledge. Laura on the boat was friendly and happy and gave us a great wine tasting too!

The views are stunning and the Cataract Gorge is the cream on top of the cake.

Thanks Tamar River Cruises!

The location has plenty of paid parking. The boat was clean and the staff were just lovely. Knowledgeable and humorous is always a good combination. It’s a very relaxing pace and there is plenty to see and learn about. We thought the meal provided was very basic - sandwiches. It might have been improved with a bowl of soup or some luscious dessert. There was plenty of coffee/ tea and some delicious beer and wine.
