This is a lovely park in the Launceston City area that is well worth a visit ..... entry is free and as a bonus they have a really great monkey enclosure that is so entertaining.
The grounds are nicely manicured and well maintained and it is a delight to take your time and just stroll around the entire park. We were fortunate in our timing in that we we were able to catch the beautiful autumn leaf colors.

There is an old but beautiful Bandstand as well as a magnificent fernery building and a great cafe with a marvellous selection of food and drinks that are very reasonably priced.

The Park is a great asset provided by the Launceston City Council and a 'must visit'!

What a great park - all free of charge you can visit the macaques in their spacious rocky domain, see a well tended and colourful plant conservatory, have a ride on a ditto train (nominal fee) and sit on a single wooden bench that seems to stretch the whole length of the park! Dogs are not allowed so the wildlife is left in peace and the whole place is spotless and so relaxing. Not to mention the whole bank of toilets! Well done Launceston - you are an inspiration and great example to the world!

City Park is for the most part a very traditional 19th-century public garden, with pathways and benches (one being the longest park bench I have every seen). a conservatory, lots of magnificent mature trees, a children's playground and a duck pond. It is a beautiful park and well worth a visit. What sets it apart from like parks is that in one corner there is an enclosure for Japanese Macaque (snow) monkeys. I feared the worst when I heard about this 'cage', which originates from 1920, but in reality the free-range enclosure was much better than I expected, with a babbling brook, various 'toys' to stimulate the monkeys, and it must be said a bare modicum of greenery. But no doubt about it, the macaques have drawing power. It seems most visitors to the park come here to see them and not much else.
One last thing, I wish more of the garden's very impressive trees were labelled with their botanical and common names. Not too much to ask in a major public garden.

This park was established in the 1820s by the Launceston Horticultural Society and handed over to the City Council in 1863.

Apart from the fabulous number of different trees, plants, flowers, shrubs, open grass areas and gardens the park boasts a conservatory (unfortunately closed when we visited), a band stand, a children's playground, a pond with ducks, statues, memorials and MONKEYS.

Apparently the sister city to Launceston is Ikeda City in Japan and it was the Japanese city that gifted the monkeys to the people of Launceston. The monkey's area is built at the Cameron Street entrance to the park and the inhabitants provided us with quite a bit of free entertainment.

Beautiful park well worth a visit and not just for the monkeys.

Another quick stop in Launceston. Located close to the historic Grand Chancellor, this park houses a conservatory, macaque enclosure and is behind Albert Hall.

A nice and calm park with well-manicured but small flower gardens. The Japanese macaque enclosure is also free entry and it's just adds that something little extra compared to other city parks. There is a cafe near the main entrance.

The park is more of a green space to pause and unwind as it has a restrained feel in terms of botanical displays. This restrain is also evident in the conservatory with enough plants inside with ample room for visiting or functions.

A short walk from the best western plus hotel this park has plenty of beautiful grass areas to sit on and seats throughout. There is a children’s playground and toilet block away from the main toilet block near the cafe. The macac monkeys are a must see in their enclosure but check opening hours as the monkeys are locked up at night. There are many unusual and beautiful flowers in the hothouse.

What a beautiful park to walk around in the city. The best attraction is the Japanese Monkeys. I stood there for half an hour viewing all the different monkeys. Mums pulling young babies around, others preening the hierarchy, some swinging on ropes and others sunbathing. Best monkey display I have ever seen.

Launceston council well done for maintaining this gorgeous treasure of a park. So family friendly, the smile on the children’s faces as the rode the miniature train around the grounds was a delight to see. The snow monkeys enclosure is also wonderful for young & old. The grounds are delightful to meander through with an abundance of both shade & light. There is no shortage of places to throw the picnic rug or you can avail yourself to the cafe, with the bathrooms a short stroll away. We highly recommend a visit.

We come to the city park every time we are Launceston. Beautiful park with a playground and wonderful shady spots for a picnic. Some days the train will drive around and provide a little tour of the park.
Mother ducks with tiny ducklings in the water lagoon. So many beautiful flowers and of course the Monkeys, always the star attraction! I would always give this park 10/10!

We had a great stroll around the city of Launceston and all its lovely parks and gardens. We took in the sites at City Park and were captivated by the macaque monkey enclosure with quite a large troup on display ranging from babies to the large dominant male. We spent quite a while just observing their antics. This is another must see in Launceston.
