Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic tour with Racheal (the Tour guide) was amazingly knowledgeable and shared so much beyond the norm questions 💫 I highly recommend this tour AND it’s not going to stop! Even with the changes for some production to the mainland in the near future! So generous with tastings and incredible on-site to the history of brewing beer 💫❤️
ps a 100% better tour than Cascade Brewery in Hobart (they need to see how to do it really well)

We had an incredible time at the James Boag Brewery in Tasmania! 🍺 The tour was informative, fun, and a must-do for any beer lover. Our guide, Phil, was fantastic – he was friendly, knowledgeable, and did a great job explaining the entire brewing process and the rich history behind the brewery.
The highlight, of course, was the beer tasting! We got to try three different beers, and they were all amazing. My personal favorite was The Wizard Smith – not just a fantastic ale but a brew with a story that makes it even more special.
Cheers to Tassie’s iconic beer and the wonderful team at James Boag Brewery for such an enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area!

It was terrific fun and also informative. Launceston had numerous blackouts on the day which did affect the operation a little but our guide, Ashleigh (hope I spelt her name right) was outstanding throughout the tour. Would love to go back again and see it fully operational.

From the minute we walked in and spoke to Alissa we were hooked by her enthusiasm and energy. Then on continuing the tour, her knowledge and enthusiasm was outstanding, (even if she did knock the fact we were Australians thumbs down 👎 for XXXX gold 😅) in a fun way. She made the tour for us.

The tour was great, we learned about James Boag himself as well as how the brand came to be and how their beers are brewed. Interesting and kept entertaining with our knowledgeable tourguide Ashley. The tastings were at the end and held in a beautiful old building with lots of history, great way to spend a cold July afternoon!

Had a great experience. Cory, our guide was knowledgeable and made the tour very enjoyable. Seeing the brewing process from start to finish. and the tales from over the years made the tour that little bit more special. If you're in Launceston, I'd highly recommend the tour, it's well worth it, and you get a couple of beers to taste test at the end...

I’m not usually a Boag’s fan but glad we stumbled upon this tour while in Launceston. Tour guide Cory was a great guide with his extent of information and entertaining humour. Visited on a weekend so the brewery wasn’t operational but still a wonderful way to spend 90 mins plus the tasting afterwards. Many stayed on afterwards for drinks and food. Worth a visit

Alyssa, our tour guide was fantastic! She did an amazing job and was full of lots of interesting information and had a great sense of humour! We were really impressed with the whole tour- and the three beers at the end were a great way to finish a wonderful time. Thank you Alyssa!

Brilliant tour with Phil. My son, a beer drinker thoroughly enjoyed the experience learning about the process and the components even tips on how to enjoy your beer. I have been converted after this tour to drinking beer as Boags is crisp, perfect for a Tasmanian summer. Loved the history of Launceston and Boags. Whether you are a beer drinker or not, local or a visitor head to Boags for a fabulous tour and incredibly generous beer tasting of their great brews.

We were fortunate to have Alyssa as our tour guide. She was friendly, knowledge and had a good sense of humour. The tour runs for about 2 hours which includes beer sampling at the conclusion of the tour of the brewery. Already fans of James Boag Premium, we were delighted to try their St George as well as the Wizard Smith (my favourite). At Alyssa’s recommendation we stayed on to enjoy a delicious pizza and more delicious beer. If you enjoy beer, history and a great tour you can’t miss this tour.

I assume there is a cost to take the 90 minute brewery tour, but could not find it on their website. We are planning a trip to Tassie in September 2018 and are doing our budget. Thank you in advance.

Can anyone estimate how many stairs there are? I am traveling with an elderly beer lover, who could do some stairs but not lots and lots of stairs.
He can do the stairs at Sydney railway stations (one flight of stairs).
Any advice?
Written 21 December 2017
There are stairs to the initial waiting (1 flight)
Then a set of stairs to view where the beer is fermented
The last set is where you first started to finish and try some of their range of beers

Is the Brewer open over the Christmas holiday period? We are considering a trip between boxing day and just after new years day.
