I had an hour or so to spend and by chance I spotted a sign saying Franklin House was open. I went to the front door but it didn't seem to be open so I wandered around the back where I was greeted by one...More

Expensive entry with limited areas of the house accessible. Overall I did not think it was worth the entry fee. So would not recommend here. Suggest a visit to Clarendon House instead

Fabulous insight into the history of the area. It showed how a could make good and become quite wealthy with resourcefulness and hard work. Showed the hardships that colonial people suffered in the early days of the settlement. It was great to see the gardens...More

We loved touring through this house. Lots of interesting artefacts and easy to read history. Peaceful and beautiful gardens and very different to the colonial houses around the Hawkesbury where we are from.

Well worth visiting. Having visited Clarendon House, and learning there was a connection between the 2, we had to visit. Very interesting.

Step back in time when visiting the house and garden at Franklin House, and don't forget to order tea and scones from the cute little cafe, run by local volunteers, tucked away inside this house.

Launceston’s only historic house museum that has an interesting history. The home was built by a convict in 1833 and then was leased by a school principal in 1842 and was established as a boys schools. The grounds are also beautiful. Don’t forget to enjoy...More

Interesting rooms inside with the usual historical information. Also, some well kept gardens. A great place to spend an hour or two.

Worth a visit if you like period houses, esp Georgian architecture and decoration. Perhaps a house tour (like at Clarendon) would have served us better to make the property come alive for us.

We were fortunate to be greeted by Joy who took time to explain the history of this great venue. It has been well maintained and the volunteers do a terrific job. The gardens were delightful and the building amazing.
