Exquisite timber works!
Jun. 2021
Happily the Centre was located near my hotel, I love the old and new style of the building and also adore timber!
I was told they were preparing for the current exhibition so got to see the permanent one only. There are stunning timber pieces from chairs to sofas to a drum. Apparently, every year there is a new addition to the collection. All those gorgeous trees found in Tasmania make very special furniture.
I was impressed with the shop too showcasing Tasmanian designs in timber and jewellery.
Staff are helpful, entry free but donation helps.
I will return and cannot recommend the place highly enough!

Great
Mar. 2021 • Couples
This gallery is architecturally beautiful - a great site o showcase the collection of furniture and other exhibits. We were met by a welcoming, professional and engaging man who gave us a very interesting overview of what The Design Centre is all about.
Loved the furniture although wondered at some of the methods used to display as not all surfaces are able to be viewed. Would LOVE a lot more info on each piece- why it was chosen to be part of the collection and detailed info on the artist and craftsman who built it.
In the big gallery to the right of entry was an exhibition of ceramics which again was top class but lacked proper background info on the artist.
This place is an absolute gem and with the additional info will be a show case to be envied.

What an experience!
Sep. 2019
I really enjoyed my visiit, there was an exhibition on Japanese architecture with a guided tour from an informative and erudite guide. Later I wandered into the shop and purchased a trivet and salad servers made from local wood for a friend. I gave them to him in Malaga for his 65th Birthday presents, he is a great cook and will enjoy them. I also purchased 2 x letter openers that have just arrived today, they are beautifully crafted pieeces.
The employees here could not have been more informative and helpful, they all obviously enjoy their work which is such an important thing isn't it? I will return for sure.

Beautiful on a rainy afternoon
Sep. 2019 • Solo
Spent a rainy afternoon in this beautiful gallery. There was an interesting exhibition on Japanese architecture.

The building design and the wooden furniture were wonderful. Also the gift shop had beautiful objects, wood and furniture, clothes and jewellery. Lots of beautiful holiday gifts to take home.
