Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful and an exciting experience for young kids and adults. We did the return trip and enjoyed the slow and pleasant trip. It is better to do the walks before so you can explore the view from above when travelling on the chairlift. Cost per adult is AUD 16/- (return). Spotting a peacock fanning its feathers from above is a sight to behold! Loved the experience.

Provides a fantastic 360 view of the gorge as you pass over it. Doesn't move too fast either so you have plenty of time to admire the view. If you're planning to explore around the gorges well as doing the chairlift ride, I recommend a one-way ticket instead of a return.

Beautiful walks and gorge in the heart of the town. We walked from the Waterfront to the Duckreach station and were astounded by the beauty and well maintained trails. As pleasant as the chairlift appeared, we preferred walking the 5 minutes around the lake to get to the Cafe/Rotunda on the other side. The $20 return ticket influenced this, but was not the only consideration - the walk was needed after all the time int the car. My rating is of the gorge and the park, not the chairlift, although the chairlift appeared to be working seamlessly.

Went one way on the chairlift which is only 300 metres so it goes very slowly. I get that the funds go to maintenance of the grounds but I think they would get more custom if they lowered the price a bit. Having said that it gives you a good view of the grounds and parts of the gorge,

Nice and quiet, nothing particularly exciting but very relaxing and the views were good. The staff were very good - discussed the differences between us New Zealanders and the people of Oz in a generally good humoured insulting manner each way. Would be thrill for kids I would think but very pleasant and gentle

Lovely friendly staff, stunning views and a range of walks for all fitness levels.
The lady at the counter was super helpful with her recommendations & both chairlift operators were polite and friendly. Chairlift is $20 per person over and back and well worth it.

It seemed shorter than it seemed. We spent $16 per person for the return trip, which was a bit pricey, but I'm pleased I got to see the area from a high vantage point and snap photographs. I visited in the heat of January, so the weather was pleasant.

Take the chairlift for amazing views over Cataract Gorge. It's a smooth enough ride to enjoy the views or take those bird's eye photographs. You can either pay for a return journey or take it one way and walk the return journey. Safe enough for our primary school age children to travel by themselves.

After walking to the summit from the city, we jumped on the chairlift for a reward. The views are scenic, the staff are helpful and the chair is quite easy to hop on and off. For $16 both ways, this is definitely worth the price.

This is a must do if youre in the region. We tried to go at lunchtime on a weekend and we couldn’t find parking. Returned the next morning right before the chairlift opened (9.30am) and were first in line! No line up. The staff are super helpful. By the time we had made our return trip, there was a line up… so I recommend coming early. Unfortunately you are unable to buy tickets online and it is a very manual process.

Is it alright for a female to do this walk alone. My usual plan is to have someone along in case of a fall or any other problem that may occur.
I'm in Launceston alone and don't really want a group walk.
Many thanks

What is the maximum weight for a person using the chair lift
Written 3 February 2022
Is there a toddler age limit or height requirement for the chair lift?
Written 15 December 2017
I don't think so. If you have a young child they will sit them on your lap.

The chairlift is under $20 for a return tri. However if one wants to walk the entire area it all depend on your pace but it would take normally 30 to 45 minutes for a slow walk. It is an easy walk. However, f you are disabled or have limited walking abilities, it is best to stay close to the grounds’ seating arrangements nearest to you.
Hope that helps

What is the walk back like? It is easy or hilly and rugged? Approximately how long does it take to walk back? Thanks
Written 17 September 2017
Hi there. The walk is level and I was with someone who has walking difficulties and they managed both ways very well. Its an easy walk along the river.

To access the airlift one need a bit of effort to reach. However there is guidance on how to access the individual chairlift. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking view. It is indeed easy to get on and hop off the chairlift. The price may be a bit under $20.- for a return trip.
Have fun
