- Five Out and AboutNew South Wales, Australia151 contributionsExcellent tour and magical cave 💙LOVED this tour! It was so informative that our whole family including kids aged 13, 10 and 6, learnt so much. The guide was amazing. Not only was he so full of knowledge but he was funny at the same time. The cave is mesmerizing 😍 I would happily recommend this tour to anyone.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 February 2024
- ThePrincessTravels19 contributionsAfternoon well spent at Engelbrecht CaveIt’s open again! My husband and I were delighted to see that the tours have restarted after they had been shut down for a few weeks. We did the tour today and our tour guide (Kristie?) was knowledgeable, patient and friendly. I have some mobility problems but managed the steps quite well. We found the cave spectacular and the history fascinating.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 July 2024

We arrived about 20 minutes before the guided tour, not realising we could not self guide. We decided to hang around for the tour and were so glad we did! Our guide Zetta was fantastic! My friend and I were the only ones on the tour and it was lovely to have her as our personal guide. Zetta was very knowledgeable, super friendly, had a good sense of humour. What more could you ask from a tour guide. The caves were amazing to experience and we thought them well worth the cost of entry.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 August 2024

Visiting a cave where you can see mainly rubbish might be for somebody interesting. Caves are nothing special. For cavedivers maybe a must, but for a normal human not interesting. If history of the cave is interesting for you, just read about in the internet
( putted mainly dead animals and rubbish from a whiskey destillery in the cave ), Not worth the money.

It is within Mount Gambier town, and is a nice little cave.
Though the cave is bigger, the area accessible to the tour is very small,
Duration of the tour is just around 35 mins. When you pay for a tour, you expect an activity for at least an hour or two.
There is nothing else to self explore, once the guided tour is over.
You cannot touch any part of the cave, and can only take pictures.
If you already explored other caves in Australia , such as Jenolan (NSW)/ Bucchan (VIC), you won't find it fascinating.
Though the tour guide was very informative, it is not recommended due to the above reasons.

Terrible experience, one of the worst tours we have ever been on. The tour guide was so rude, unfriendly and unwelcoming. She spoke like she had memorised a script, there was nothing genuine or personal about it.
They had no tolerance for children and we would not recommend going with a young family. Although the caves were very cool to see the tour guide ruined the experience entirely.

Very rude staff. The person with the glasses with blonde hair on the till was very condescending and racist. My Caucasian partner came in a few minutes after and she had treated him with a lovely manner and had offered him the next tour in a kind manner. Mind you, I was very kind to them and had said nothing mean. They also had incorrect opening hours time on their website. They had said the only tour they have is at 3pm but they close at 3pm on their website. It is mentioned on their website that they have tours every hours on the hour. We got there just before the tour was starting, and we waited outside of the facility to see if there are people going in. The are actually no one lining up for the tour. It is something that the Mt. Gambier Council needs to review. Waste of time.

There are two caves that are kind of interesting. The guide was very knowledgable and knew her script. However, even without Covid and social-distancing, there are far too many people on a tour. I was interested to hear what the guide was saying and asking us to look at, but couldn't see anything because it was so crowded.

Discriminative policy against children and young people living with disability and their carers. Really disappointed as we have travelled half way around Australia and not one experience or activity has excluded the children and have all when required made modification or adaptations to allow them access. My attempts to negotiate and problem solve were not welcome. Really disappointing as this is a very unique experience.

We visited 1 day and missed it being open so made sure the next day we were there early for the guided tours.
It is well worth the entry price and definitely need good flat shoes for the stairs to enter the cave. It also has underwater suba diving available to certified divers.
Thats a different part of the cave system which the walking tour doesn't and cant do. I had not been here before and totally enjoyed it.
I had missed the sign post on the way into town as was looking for our accommodation at the time.
Parking is on the back street and not on the main highway into town.

Not worth the $60 cost for 2 adults and 2 children. The history of the caves was interesting but there’s really not a lot to see and the tour was quite short. Would be better if you could get closer to the water or if they had a video of people cave diving playing to give you a better appreciation for them. Google Engelbrecht cave dive and save yourself the $$.

Must join the tour which is great for all the extra information provided by the guide. A cave once used as a rubbish dump. Some of the rubbish artefacts can be seen during the tour. Otherwise the cave has many natural formations. See how animal faces you can see in the rock shapes.
There are two caves, both of which you’ll go in. Access is easy with good steps and board walks once in.

Yes a five year old will be fine as long as you hold their hand on the steps that are deep.
