Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Advertised as an attraction in the middle of town. Cave Gardens is a disgrace and the council need to do something. So neglected and now used as a dumping ground. We saw several shopping trolleys dumped at the bottom. So sad. Bring it back to life.

The area is renowned for sunken gardens created by volcanic activity. This garden is in the town centre adjacent to the library and the Riddoch Art Gallery. The garden is well tended and the steps down from the street are easy to negotiate for walkers but unfortunately are a problem for the physically disabled.
This is certainly an unusual town centre attraction.

The cave looked like it was being used as local a rubbish bin. The council should be embarrassed by the presentation of its most accessible sinkhole.

Located in the centre of Mount Gambier, the outside of this garden is fairly unassuming, though it's decorated with various flowers. Sadly, the actual cave garden is exceptionally diminutive (much smaller than the other sinkholes) and you would be done with your visit in just 5-10 minutes. The garden is also atrociously maintained, as it has been vandalised with a Coles trolley and other garbage. Overall, this is an extremely mediocre cave garden.

The Gardens are well laid out with lookouts at every level.
However, it appeared to be incomplete as work was still ongoing.
Noteworthy were some unusual trees and plants along the way.
If you are going in for a coffee to the Mt Gambier CBD do a leisurely walk to the Cave Gardens.
Detailed historical information available at the site on how it was created from a sinkhole etc

2 consecutive nights we went to the cave gardens and twice we were disappointed. The sound & light views were not on at all. No information regarding the cancellation of this activity. At least the authority should have informed tourists about it. So many families waited for at least 30 mins and really felt let down by the authority.

Half dead plants and the sinkhole has so much rubbish in it including trolleys in the bottom. Turned up for the light show and waited hours for nothing to happen. Asked a local working in a shop and they had no idea what it was. Teenagers roaming around in the dark playing loud music. Multiple disappointed kids and parents arrived and then left as it wasn't advertised as not running when it's advertised as running every night.

What a great attraction. We always visit the other sink holes and miss this. This is lovely and a must to see. Easy access and parking on the street

This sinkhole garden in the centre of the town was disappointing. We had expected more. There is a viewing platform at the top and a walkway with steps to another viewing platform halfway down into the sinkhole. The waterfall was dry. Unfortunately there was rubbish littered at the bottom, including a shopping trolley. The entire area appeared neglected. It's worth a brief look, if you happen to be passing by, although parking is an issue. The garden would probably be more spectacular at night when there are coloured lights in the gardens and a light show on a nearby wall.
