Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bitter sweet visit to Mt Gambier. Fond memories of the days of steam and the hive of activity associated with the railways. In that respect the city is a shadow of itself

This is a very modern facility that caters to the arts in Mt.G. Has rotating exhibitions and a great gift shop of local, unique arts and crafts.

Since the demise of regional railways and the replacements of transport to trucks and road trains, a problem exists of what to do with the infrastructure in place. Mt Gambier have creatively solved their problem. The rail tracks had been lifted and the rail corridor replaced with a bicycle track combined with a walk/running track.

What was the Mt Gambier railway station and yards has been turned into the central hub of the creative plan. This valuable resource features an adventure playground not of commercial style but using natural and recycled materials. There is a large open amphitheater capable of use for relaxation but also for local community theatrical based events. A Railway Urban Wet Land has been included with fish and ducks populating the area. A BBQ/picnicking area established for family use with a native edible garden established next to the BBQ area.

Toilets are in the original signal box and the station is under renovation for further community innovation in the area.

I had heard of the development and was excited as being able to see what is possible with forethought and creative innovation. For other towns with a similar issue, the Mt Gambier solution is one that could be easily adapted. I would encourage travellers and locals to visit the Railway Lands and enjoy what Mt Gambier have every day!

Return? Yes would return to see what further developments have been made to the Railway Yards and in particular the old station itself.

Visited on Saturday 22nd February, we went to check it out, there wasn't a lot to see but glad they have kept the area open so the locals can enjoy it.

On the old railway line this is a great safe walk, ride, jog, stroll by yourself or with family and friends and pets.

Admired the old buildings - hope they get conserved. Easy access to shopping centre and cafes. Attended a Christmas carol service in the open air. Other events throughout the year.

We love visiting here with the children, taking their bikes, scooters - there's plenty of space to ride around safely. The natural play areas are fantastic, wooden climbing structures, large wooden lizard to climb on, a creek area that is sometimes empty, sometimes has water - the children love playing here and don't usually get as bored as quickly as at regular playgrounds. This is a great place for a picnic or bbq as well.

The defunct Mount Gambier Rail Lands have been converted into a walking and cycling path that is suitable for people of all ages to use. The paths are wide and flat - a perfect place to take the kids for a bike ride. The central section of the Rail Lands has a lovely playground and "wetlands" area for the kids to play along with a BBQ area. It a nice safe area centrally located! Love it!

A wonderful way of connecting the city from the East to the West, and now beyond too! This is a great area to picnic - byo please - barbeque - again byo please - or simply somewhere for the children to be able to play, without too much care required. The walking track follows the path of the old railway lines from one side of the city to the other, is easy, with few hills (naturally) and well set out. Just take care at the road crossings.
