About
A stroll through the State Heritage listed Queens Park and Botanic Gardens is an absolute must for any visitor to the Garden City. Set across more than 25 picturesque hectares, the parkland has been enjoyed by generations of locals and regional visitors since it first opened to the public in the late 1800s. It's a beautiful calm space where nature showcases its seasonal offerings, alongside the city's bustling CBD. In spring and summer, riotous colour spots garden beds in a shout out to the warmer weather, while autumn obliges with its own radiant show. Dollops of red and orange swirl across the landscape as the leaves of giant deciduous trees transform and fall, laying a textured, multi-coloured carpet underneath. A variety of community activities and annual events are also hosted at Queens Park and Botanic Gardens with Toowoomba's internationally renowned Carnival of Flowers and its signature Flower, Food and Wine Festival leading the way.

Toowoomba Flower Festival a sight not to be missed. Held each year during September, it was in doubt this year due to Covid. There wasn't a street parade as usual, but stationary exhibits throughout the town. The flower gardens and presentation excellent.

Queens Park is a beautiful park and so close to the City of Toowoomba. It is family friendly with plenty of playgrounds and toilets, walking and cycling tracks and many good seating areas for the weary. Walking through this large parkland is a wonderful experience and presents a huge asset to the City of Toowoomba. There is also a large dog friendly area. It was good to see so many locals, families and visitors appreciating and using this great venue.
PS: 32 years ago my wife and I had our wedding photos taken here.
Great venue for family picnics, entertaining children and reading quietly in the many nooks and crannies created.
Love this Park, Ian & Carolyn, Melbourne

Outstanding park, huge acreage, beautiful flowers packed into garden beds during carnival time in September, amazing play equipment and plenty of it, very imaginative, cement paths for wheelchair and pram access to everything. A seperate play equipment area for younger kids made for their size, plenty of shade. Comes alive in December with entertainment, carol singing and amazing Wonderland of lights displayed. Well worth seeing.

These gardens are just beautiful either for a stroll around or a picnic, and plenty of street parking. Plenty of seats or grassed areas for people to use or just walk around and enjoy the beautifully kept gardens.
You can spend an hour here or a day just enjoying the fresh air. Toowoomba can get cold depending on the time of year.

There’s so much to enjoy at Queens Park to suit any age.The Park is massive with many shady playgrounds dotted around the park. There’s a cleared area for those who want to play cricket or football, a designated off-leash area for dogs and the beautiful botanic gardens. The parkland has very good toilet facilities and BBQs and plenty of parking around the park including some off-street. Any time of year is a good time to visit and most popular times are spring and summer to see the flowers in bloom including sunflowers. Christmas time is spectacular too with the Christmas lights amongst the gardens. There is no cafe in the park but there are two amazing cafes across the road in Margaret Street.

The gardens are beautiful. Despite the number of visitors to the flower show, we found enough places to sit and enjoy the scenery. Clean toilets and mobile refreshment vans were available. The night garden was a bit disappointing, there were very few illuminations, so we didn’t think it was worth hanging around, waiting for it to get dark.

Beautiful park, visited during the very beginning of the Toowoomba Flower Festival. It was extremely busy late afternoon on a Sunday. Glad I walked from the hotel, would not have found a park. Definitely worth a visit flowers were amazing, a real credit to Toowoomba. Wonderful festival but very crowded.

Somehow I was expecting a much larger floral display after a walk through the extensive park. The garden beds were beautifully manicured and looked to be just before their prime. It was a shame that the information kiosk was not manned given many people visit before the major event weekend

Sadly it was absolutely freezing the day we visited and we were unprepared so we couldn’t stay for our planned picnic but we did have a walk around the gardens. Very well kept, very pretty with information dotted about on the different sections. Well worth a return visit on a warmer day :)

Queens Park Gardens during the Carnival of Flowers is pretty, there's no doubt. Definitely do this park BEFORE Laurel Bank Park, because if you came here second, you'd be disappointed. Its a good step BEFORE Laurel Bank Park. Spacious a pretty.
When its not the Carnival of Flowers, its still a terrific place with LOADS of open spaces for picnics and games.

where is the best place to view the carnival of flowers parade for someone with mobility issues and how far would i have to walk from the shuttle bus that comes from picnic point? If standing around is diificult, is there somewhere near the end of the parade route that i can turn up to later say about 3:40 pm that is easily accessible from the shuttle bus where i can still get a view of the parade?

Hi. I'm not sure where the shuttle bus stops but I see a lot of tourist buses parked in Godsall Street during the parade. That is also where the parade ends, at the corner of Godsall and Hume Sts. The parade turns into Queens park on that corner. It would probably also be a good place for you to watch it although there is always a fairly big crowd on that corner. You can bring a camp chair and park yourself there and still get a good view of the parade.

Is it worthwhile visiting Queens Park at this time of year for floral dislplay. Considering I would need to drive 2 hours
Written 26 October 2015
Hi Had a drive around Toowoomba today. As a previous person has stated, most of the flowers have been removed from Queens Park, and the gardens are not as spectacular as they are at Carnival of Flowers time in September each year.

Could you tell me the most worthwhile time to visit Queens Park. I have seen photos of it and I am wanting to bring an elderly friend with me to visit it and see it but we would not want to drive 2 hours if there would be no worth while floral display beds ( after Carnival of flowers) any advice would be most appreciated
Written 26 October 2015
That is a difficult question to answer, because the city gardeners are always replacing gardens once the annual flowers die off but they replant again quickly. I know that most of the garden beds of annuals are in the process of replanting at the moment. Not all plants are short cycle and there are some nice permanent gardens as well.
The four main places to visit are Queens Park, Laurel Bank Park both in or near city centre.. Picnic Point a definite visit.. and maybe on the way back to Brisbane go via Spring Bluff Railway Station, half way down the range on the road from Mt Kynoch to Murphys Creek then on to Brisbane.
Maybe if you are planning a visit, give Council a call on 131872 - the lady on customer service will contact Parks manager and check for you.
BUT overall the best times for Carnival flowers is about two weeks before and after Carnival week (last week of September). There are quite a few exhibition gardens also.
If you come to Toowoomba call in at the Tourist Information Centre, on the Main Warrego Highway in the centre of town - they are pretty well up on all that is happening.
Best wishes.
