Lovely place to chill out
Jul. 2021
Lovely space with paths leading through various gardens and types of flora. There didn't seem too much too it overall (the area covered didn't seem vast), but I don't know if I might have just missed some of it. Either way, it was a lovely place to walk around to relax (especially right beside the tiny waterfall - lovely!), and the cafe made great coffee and scones! Toilets are close by and were clean. Really nice place to spend a few hours to just chill...

Unforgettable Experience
Aug. 2021
Kim at the centre was an initial good contact who meticulously arranged our appointment with Toni, the volunteer guide. Toni was excellent in her presentation, very knowledgeable about the relevant historical connections including First Nations connections to the plant life and environment. Thank you so much Toni and Kim.

Very big gardens and wetlands and all well maintained. There are plenty of walking and cycling tracks throughout the gardens.
Recommend for a lovely walk.

Mackay Botanic Gardens

We had such a spectacular sunrise walk through the Mackay Botanical Gardens the other morning. Lovely little walk along the edge of the pond with a great little lookout near the main building as a centre point 🤩

Must-Visit in Mackay to enjoy Nature and Gardens
Oct. 2020
The Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens are stretched out alongside The Lagoons and wetland with the information centre and cafe in the middle of the right-hand bank. We walked the northern section- it was a bit warm but mostly shady. Plenty of birdlife to be seen in the lagoon as well. The 51 hectare gardens showcase the flora of the diverse region such as rainforests, beaches and mangrove habitats. There were some specialised gardens such as Heritage and the children's playground looked great and families were enjoying the open spaces. There were hundreds of butterflies (blue tigers) around a tree (Silky Tamarind) near the entrance, which was amazing to see.

We are glad that you enjoyed your visit to the Botanic Gardens. The butterflies are certainly an attraction at the gardens and the large numbers of Blue Tigers this year have been amazing. We hope that you come back and visit another time.

Regional Botanical Gardens with an impressive entrance wall
Jul. 2020
Our hour long visit to discover the Mackay Regional Botanical Gardens was delightful, the gardens are located on the southside of Mackay. First stop was to be the information office but it is closed on the weekend, not to worry as there was sufficient information around the gardens to satisfy our interests. And so we started at the Lagoon Cafe for morning coffee and a sweet treat on the covered deck of the cafe, a perfect start with the addition of a resident python overhead in the rafters!
To discover the highlights of the garden we took the self-guided walk #1, an easy 70 metre long circuit, the path is accessible to all mobilities. There were themed sections like the Malta Garden in recognition of the large Maltese community living in Mackay, a small garden to link Mackay's relationship to its sister city Matsuura City in Japan. Eulamere Lagoon was a bonus feature of the garden it was fun to look for wildlife, we saw lots of turtles.
But the highlight piece of the gardens for me was the impressive sculpture at the entrance to the gardens, Sugar Cane Wall, check it out, the use of farming equipment to create a very appealing sculpture including frogs and platypus was ingenius.

A large area of beauty
Jul. 2020
Quite a large area is taken up by these lovely gardens. They are so diverse and to take it all in would certainly take some time. Along the walks are little waterfalls and various things to catch your eye. Well worth spending some time here.

Cafe was not great
Sep. 2020 • Friends
Lovely view. Must have come at a bad time of year though very dry that can’t be helped. Service at cafe wasn’t great, they were busy and their computer system went down which also cannot be helped but no one came to clean the table before we sat down. They seemed annoyed that we wanted to order. My friends food came out 10 mins before mine. I ordered tea and got this little canister of hot water with literally no tea in it. Not really a pleasant experience.
