Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Plenty of great spots along the Pioneer River to stop and enjoy its beauty - stunningly blue and well worth the effort to enjoy as a family. A must do in my opinion.

Stayed in an apartment with a balcony overlooking the river. Very big tide movement which exposes sand bars and lots of small boats after a haul of fish. Beautiful sunsets and sun rises really accentuate the beauty of the river

The river is my soul..... I was brought up in the Vally and learnt to fish and swim in the river near Marian. I have only fond memories of this place. Now they have rowing on the river and can of you are inclined, catch some awesome Barramundi if you know the right spots. You could spend a week exploring the river from the mouth to the mountains, and it would be well worth your effort.

This is the bluest river in Australiaibe been told, I have to say it is very blue, it's the main river through Mackay with some eatery places over looking the river. The council have built a blue water trail which is great to walk, jog ride or scoot with the family. It is popular. its a shame there is opportunities for water activities to hire in town from a local hire shop by the river somewhere to explore the river, fishing boats, jet skis etc... A river cruise option would also be great for locals and visitors.

Pioneer river is at the heart of Mackay, very under utilised there are a couple of cafe/restaurants on the banks of the river and a couple of fishing places set up , could be used alot more , further upstream you can canoe safely

A pleasant walk in the afternoon from Caneland to the main bridge. The path needs to be extended to the beach walk path. The beach walk is pretty boring being just alongside mangroves for the length of it.

Stayed in Quest apartments on Gordon, went for early am walk down past some lovely early historic buildings, to the impressive river precinct. Good paved, shared walkways up or down river, inviting bridges with historical signs describing early days of river commerce, boating, wharf & flood history. Town Cafes always closeby.

Mackay’s Pioneer River is one of only two blue rivers in Qld. Stunning sunsets and excellent walking tracks around the banks. Excellent fishing spots and stunning views. Take some time to explore.

A lovely walk along a well manicured track next to a magnificent river. Do it if you get the opportunity.
