Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dedicated to Aboriginal art, we just loved it. On 4 floors you will be taken back by the paintings. Definitely worth going. The kids' section is nice too as the paintings on the walls tell stories, the books are on display.

Always good to have a decent free gallery in a city. This one has four levels but is pretty small and quick, mostly hokey new stuff but mostly based around the Illawarra so that's good. A few sparse multimedia displays but fortunately only one sound file playing at a time. Entrance is through a driveway that was full of cars, the staff are very noisy and it was a bit sadistic to have a couple of bubblers in the gallery area that were not functional, but it's worth a look.

Interesting building with colourful exterior art panels. Centrally located with a shop full of interesting gift ideas. Current exhibition ‘Just not Australian’ is varied and topical. Exhibition space covers 2 floors (stairs or lift) and enjoyed seeing the range of styles, art mediums and eras. Something for everyone to enjoy/learn. Staff welcoming and helpful.

Despite being billed as an important regional gallery, it hardly qualifies as such in reality.
That said the current major exhibition alone is worth the trip to The Gong, it being both beautifully presented as well as most attractively curated & thoughtfully presented .
No coffee shop is boring..so thank goodness there's at least one lone F&B operation directly opposite.
The tiny First Nations collection is mired in time .. no excuse!
& the local art school watercolour prize showing doesn't really belong there, even though its great it IS there! If you get my drift...
This gallery remains .. to a somewhat extent....underwhelming. Pity.

We went here with high hopes but the current exhibits were awful. We went through the whole place in about 20 minutes. To give you a taste of what we saw, there was a room with framed colour printouts of insults. Why would anybody want to see this garbage?
Thank goodness there was no entry fee.

An appreciation of local artists. As it is the 40th anniversary of the gallery they had a good display that an “oldie” like me took some time to look at with photos of earlier Australian screen stars, covers of TV Week and more.

We love this gallery and visit whenever we're in the area.
The surviving deco architecture makes this such a pleasant space. Exhibitions are always well curated and free.
Though we don't live in the area, we particularly love shows that support local artists.
The staff are knowledgable and delightful.
Regional art galleries are a special and too often overlooked part of Australia. Please support this gem!

Fantastic paintings in the exhibition room, great contemporary displays, and very friendly staff! What’s more, it’s all free. It was god-sent on a hot January day.
