Lovely gardens with a duck pond and nice peaceful areas to relax. Lots of flowers were out but sadly the roses weren’t out yet. The glass house was closed which was a pity but I still enjoyed the rest of the gardens. Bit hard to work out where to park because of the uni cars but found a carpark eventually. Wollongong was preparing for a bike race at the time of my visit and roads were being closed off but after some swearing I eventually found my way out. In my opinion it’s not fair to close off roads in a busy city the bike race should be out in the country.

Didn't expect to see flowers during the last month of winter. Wollongong Botanic Gardens still has a lot to offer very neat and well maintained make it a joy to walk around and explore. There are quite a few entrances to the gardens and each have their own parking. There is a kids maze, and a fair size playground for kids to play. Next to that are toilets and a small coffee cart (closed when we were there) that seem to be the only place to buy food so BYO is your best bet if you intend to stay longer. Beside the playground is a picnic and BBQ area with seating where you can also help yourself to the edible herb garden to flavour your meat. Check out also the Kawasaki Bridge and Japanese Tea House, the Rotunda and Duck pond, Rose Garden these are all close by. If you have time also check out the Discovery Centre, Sir Joseph Banks Glasshouse and all the sculptures and fountains scattered throughout the park. Check out our youtube video of our day and what you would find visiting during the winter months.

A must see garden. Easy to access by bike, car or catch the free city circuit bus and garden entrance directly opposite Wollongong Uni. Garden has attractions for all ages. Have a coffee, feed the ducks, admire them sculptures, bring a picnic, and walk through the well cared for well laid out garden areas. A treat for all.

Completely enthralled by the beauty of the gardens. We were lucky enough to visit when the sculpture exhibition was on which added to our enjoyment. We enjoyed coffee from the cart near the entrance and found a beautiful shady table close by. The variety of succulents, Australian dryland, rainforest and rose gardens was mind blowing! I would love to return and highly recommend as a must for visitors in the area. A bonus was the motorised scooter for those with a disability - free to hire, together with helpful instructions from the friendly staff in the office. What a wonderful idea to allow increased access and enjoyment for older visitor and/or those with mobility issues. Thank you WBC staff. The Botanic Gardens are truly a gem of the Illawarra.

We stopped in Wollongong for half a day and decided to spend some of that time at WBG. It rained a little bit on the day but that didn't detract from the gardens & we spent around an hour wandering around looking at the flowers and birds.
There's a small coffee hut close to the car park area too, so we were able to get drinks & a small snack before continuing on our journey.

How wonderful. We didn't know that there were sculptures in the park. We collected a booklet and followed the path looking and reading information about the sculptures. There is also a kid version at the entrance. Don't hesitate to take. I put it back in the box after. I love the pond. There were so many ducks. Adorable. I would definetly go again.

First time here free great place for everyone, to enjoy beautiful gardens nice park for the kids to play . There is a coffee van there was not open this afternoon (Sunday) we where there around 2.30pm . So many great spots to picnic all year round. Will revisit in spring and summer. My favourite spot was the rose garden the smell of the roses was so pleasant. We didn't see all of the gardens as it is quite large so definitely need to revisit. I would recommend these gardens if you are looking for a nice place to walk around or just a relaxing place to go

It’s a nice garden to spend 1-2hours there to enjoy. Lots of shady area while you walk around the garden so it’s not too hot. Different areas with different types of flora and plantation. Lots of people doing their own picnic on the grass and sitting areas.
It’s so close to the city centre, a hidden gem and must visit while u are at Wollongong!

The gardens are opposite Wollongong University and very easy to get to via public transport. Get the train to Wollongong and then the free shuttle to the University. The gardens are extremly well maintained and it's very peaceful there. The rotunda and duck pond is beautiful. Highly recommended for picnics. Will definitely go back for another visit.

Hi Gillian44
yes parts of the gardens are wheelchair friendly
park in the main carpark on Murpheys avenue, from there is a wide path that starts through the garden, there are parts that are slightly up hill and areas that are gravel but you dont need to venture to those areas, there are many paths so you can choose what suits best
I will be there on the weekend so i could give you more detailed info you like
